@CmykStudent I personally dislike that this approach (icon+text as a “compound” label) is the only (and official) way to make menus with icons in FLTK, which is, compared to GTK+, a somewhat dumb toolkit. I really don't understand why GTK removed this feature. (With GIMP, I'll get totally lost even after changing the icon pack and I consider icons as necessary for use of the application.)

@morc But I've seen several people that failed to notice that it's a phone. 🤣

@morc I had an idea to take some low-cost phone with NFC and place the NFC antenna next to the screen, with a custom 3D-printed case to have a prettier reader that's also easier to use/less confusing. It was then dismissed as it's hard to replace when the HW dies, since it's basically a custom hardware, just like the previous reader. (The polling rate would be still a mild problem, but it might be possible to (ab)use Android APIs somehow…)

@morc The 3D-printed thing wasn't my work. Was that the one having wrong size of the space for the phone, that was filed down to fit the phone?

@morc An Android app is kinda neat _backup_ solution, but it's absolutely bad for a long-term use.

@morc Polling rate of the NFC on the phone was just sadly low. (IIRC the previous phone was a bit better.)

@morc And “crashes less often than the HW reader” isn't an excuse for making “The phone” the permanent solution.

@morc Yeah, I wrote the Android app in like 2 hours after 2 days of having no sleep (+ some later changes) as a _temporary_ replacement for a broken reader and that's why I totally hate that solution.

@morc But I really loved the gray box with an LCD and two buttons that does *beep* (IIRC). (Except its internals which were kinda a mess.) (The reader before the previous reader.)

@dillo Dillo looks like a really cool project. I should try replacing Links with it, but it can't replace it for all my use-cases. 😥 Links doesn't support CSS, so I should try using Dillo for viewing docs etc. I think that the choice of FLTK was great and understandable. I somewhat like this toolkit for simpler or form-based applications and Qt feels clunky in many situations. It would be interesting to have a non-windowed frontend, even with minimal UI. I don't know Dillo source code, but I could assume that the application is quite strongly coupled to the toolkit, as FLTK applications tend to be like that.

@dillo Btw, I still stick with the Links. Not for daily usage, but rather for looking up something when setting up a system (without X) or sometimes for reading plain HTML documentation (on X). It can run on a terminal, on X and also with a plain framebuffer. All its dependencies are reasonable and minimal. Most of them is optional, too. That's a killer feature for such browser. Is Dillo FLTK-only?
