@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social @lorenzofb@infosec.exchange There models to hold companies criminaly liable in other jurisdictions. Under the Australian, which has its flaws, companies can be criminally prosecuted for many offences. My understanding is subsequent to a conviction directors can be held personally liable, unless the responsibility can be pinned elsewhere. One key element is the law needs to be technology neutral. However, I doubt the corporate protection policies of the US would make this difficult. But then the US Supreme Court did rule companies are people in regards to political donations.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Yep, there's too much reliance on US products and services. Diversity of supply improves competition and resilience. In the banking sector, the US supplies nearly all of the card solutions, plus many of the interchange services. In the international sector Swift (US owned) dominates, China is developing an alternative. I think Europe should step up to the plate to develop global alternatives to Swift and Mastercard and Visa

@AkaSci@fosstodon.org The sweeping statement "the the conditions that justifiedthe law no longer exist" reads as a political/policy statement which is the jurisdiction of Congress and not a legal test. Or maybe the US Supreme Court thinks it is a lawmaking body rather than a court of law.

@ChrisMayLA6 In Australia there's clear evidence that on average for-profit childcare centres provide lower quality, less safe services. A simple explanation is th e profit margin is achieved through reducing staff costs. Methods include paying minimum rates and gaming staffing regulations. https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2025/03/19/what-is-going-wrong-with-childcare-in-australia.html
