@LALegault@newsie.social @lennybacon@infosec.exchange sometimes I see the argument that there will be domination by techbros (Musk, Zuckerberg, etc.) instead who are unfortunately still rather young. I drink for the death of these three too, but we should stay vigilant. And indeed always vote for a woman whenever possible. It'll not happen in our lifetime that a matriarchy could compensate for the millenia of patriarchy.

@luciedigitalni@aus.social is anybody aware of translations of this book? There is quite a bit of material in English that elaborates on Meta's problems, but I observe that people that do not speak English are much less aware of these problems. I guess the gag order prevents the author from pursuing that it gets translated :(

(My corporate managed laptop is Ubuntu with Gnome, so I can try this. KDE Plasma is on my private devices.) Thanks for letting know!!

@r3pek@mastodon.r3pek.org @kde@floss.social @sovtechfund@mastodon.social if you manage to log in to MS 365 with Konqueror and open OneDrive there, you can replace https with webdavs in the URL bar and it'll give you the folder view.

I don't think there is any other environment where this works as smoothly as KDE.

(This all relies on WebDAV being able to use the cookie from the original login process.)

@davidgerard@circumstances.run not using a smartphone, but regarding a folding phone I am using a Sony Ericsson Z550 that a colleague gave me and it works just fine. Given its age, I don't see any reason a folding phone would perform worse than a non-folding one :)

@anthk regarding looking for a new/refurbished system. Do you happen to have any specific hardware recommendations that would work well with Linux-libre? Maybe particular notebook models or chipsets to look for?

@anthk I see there are uses for those things, but generally they do significantly increase the security risks and I'd too stick with carefully picked firmware (and maybe drivers) only.

@anthk yep, I run such laptop too. But unfortunately there are still a lot of unknowns and we could enable so much more on these devices with more specs. For instance it would be amazing to reverse the CPU microcode and be able to patch things ourselves.

@anthk quite a bit of firmware is non-free even when a typical system with Linux-libre, it's just read from a ROM instead of uploaded by a driver into the chip's memory upon initialization. The big issue with using random firmware blobs is that people become accustomed to their OS updates delivering new versions of random blobs and there's no insight or control in what's going on there. If we all use a time-tested blob from many years ago, it is the same as dealing with a ROM blob.

@xot most governments seems to be moving to Matrix... which we can all use just the same? I never used either WhatsApp or Signal myself, so I wouldn't know if there's a particular reason to look into either of them. They are both centralized which I believe is ultimately flawed.
