Spent an hour or so with Codex to get my 17 year old iPhone game compiling and running in the iOS simulator. Built in Objective-C with Cocos2D.
By any standard the codebase is an abomination but it worked! Pushed based async multiplayer back in 2009, single player pass-and-play ,as well as playing against bots.

Every external dependency in your project, be it a library or infrastructure will eventually hurt you.
That does not mean you should avoid dependencies. It means you should choose them deliberately, understand the failure modes, and put the right boundaries around them so the blast radius stays small.
Dependencies are leverage. Just make sure they are not also load-bearing in places you cannot easily repair.

Several years ago I was biking - a lot. Over 3,000 miles that year, most of it on a cheap department store bike.
One morning I was descending a switchback near a dam. The pavement was still wet. My tires slipped out mid-turn, and I went down hard, skidding across concrete on bare skin for several feet.
It hurt. A lot.
