Over the summer I built a vector tile rendering pipeline to my topo map app Maptrails. I can pretty confidently say it’s the best and most accurate map there is for Finland right now. The update is available today.

I notice that now, by using AI for most of my app development, I spent much less time in front of my computer. Shorter stints here and there instead of sitting hours on end implementing some new feature. These days I don’t touch my desktop computer almost at all. I’ve had much more time for other hobbies, and taking a proper habit of hitting the gym several times a week. 🏋️

Proxygen aims to strike a middle ground between a security analysis tool and app developer proxy. It still blows my mind what I can now glean from a captured list of HTTP messages using the MCP tools.

Proxygen 5.1 is now available with MCP support.

It’s not just programmatic access to the app’s model layer. Whatever the agent does via MCP tools is visible in the app UI for you to review and continue from.

I’m still wrapping my head around what I’ll use this for but it definitely changes what the app is, in a profound way.

Really happy with how the new Diff tool turned out. The simplified controls work better together and it’s much easier to read the diffs now. You can even drag and drop files right into the tool.

I’d think Apple (like any platform owner would) has always preferred developers make apps that “are invisible”, use their native components (whatever is de jour that year) and don’t surprise (or delight) the user in any way. We as indie developers know better. It is exactly the fun, playfulness and innovation that drives users to come to our app. This makes our apps stand out even when the winds change direction and Apple’s focus moves to something else.
