@helielo @sabik @zzt anonymizing religion against a fascist government often requires more work than simply blanking out the fields (which would indicate data tampering) so i assume carmille as head statistician of the french census did something more complicated. anonymity is very poorly treated in research and deserves much more investment particularly as analogy to encryption

@zzt it's possible to meaningfully extend the idea if you can codify input complexity and progress towards a solution. in many cases this is extremely difficult. i spent two years on what should have been a phd thesis for a parser compiler which achieves this for undecidable grammars.
it took me almost a whole year to determine what was happening which is that it reduces undecidability to a certain compile-time-recognizable graph module and then consequently enables computational limits to be enforced upon just that section—or, the grammar writer can rewrite the grammar in an attempt to avoid this. this is vaguely similar to shift-reduce conflicts in abstract except that it's much less likely and is linked to features of the grammar that the writer can understand.
anyway nobody has ever done anything like it as far as i can tell and hacker news would instead just decide to stop computing based upon overall parser iterations because they're really not very good at manipulating and generating novel formalisms

@kirschner @techlore @fsfe @pjitendra i think this drastically undersells the concern regarding california and now US federal law. it's correct that these are not age verification bills per se—they create and in fact impose a requirement for "OS vendors" to perform large-scale surveillance of their users in a way that cannot be opted out. this is from the text of the law, which is markedly distinct from any analysis i've read of it, particularly the california bill's determination of "internal" information.

@navi @GrapheneOS @lumi linux is in fact a corporate project and has been for a while and it's ridiculous and unserious to me to portray it as the apex of "freedom-respecting" because of the many vested corporate interests who are inextricable from the linux governance structure. linus demonstrated that you can get corps to invest in your open source code like this but the coercion and inertia works both ways

@RosaCtrl it's very clear to see how king invokes the crucifixion as analogy to nonviolent resistance. there are many very good analyses and criticisms of nonviolence including but not limited to the arguments advocating for violent resistance. i don't believe resistance should be analyzed on a violent/nonviolent dichotomy—dr. king speaks to that for a minute in his letter. he also expounds at length on the necessity of rejecting ("breaking") unjust laws and describes at length how to identify an unjust law. you'll note by the way that this is an example of a legal argument
