@LonM@social.vivaldi.net I’ve been receiving emails about the ‘upgrade’ over past weeks. Never used a Scotrail app, only ever used the website to buy tickets. Yet another reason to eschew ‘apps’ and transact using a web site with ‘receipts’, QR codes, etc, via email. Like… Scotland: mountains, glens, the mobile internet (4/5G) coverage isn’t (yet) stellar.

@ahltorp@mastodon.nu @ScottishGreens@mastodon.scot At this point, there is no ‘new’ oil & gas drilling, that’s all been done: the seafloor infrastructure, FPSO, gas export pipeline, all in place. Rosebank is very close to production. This is certainly a test for UK gov, these two projects kicked off yrs ago, even before NetZero targets were introduced. If UK gov terminates now what has been approved up til this point there’s little difference to the Orange Oaf’s attitude to ‘windmills’. Politicians make compromises, a compromise here is for ‘Adura’ to proceed but levy/tax the products so as to fund UK homeowner’s transition (& permit no more).

@ScottishGreens@mastodon.scot It’s complicated: the previous UK government approved development of Rosebank in Sept 2023. The field is now near, if not at, production status. @sundogplanets@mastodon.social The engineering challenge has been overcome: Google & Meta have done it, they’re laying far more capacity on the ocean floor with fibre optic cables than SpaceX & Amazon Leo could ever hope to realise from space with RF. The largest of the UK’s FTTP terrestrial infrastructure providers serves more customers than SpaceX does, globally. It’s a horrific waste of energy to sate the ambitions of one sociopatic malcontent.

@TheSnoopySnoop@mastodon.scot We’re (that’s me & George the whippet) often there. Walked through nearby by shaded, tree covered paths yesterday. The NT has recently re-opened a path that meanders thru a wildflower meadow between Minnowburn car park & The Giants Ring. There’s a bunch of greyhounds, whippets, & other sighthounds that frequent the spot. I have suspicions that it was actually an ancient race track for them.

@Geri@mastodon.online Isn’t it that most gas was extracted in the southern North Sea whereas oil was more dominant in the northern North Sea? Another thing Norwegians (& other Scandanavians) seem to excel at is offshore engineering, not that Scotland/GB is void of such skills but they carry over to offshore wind & GB isn’t at the vanguard there.

@SaschaWenger @rolf Pretty confident that it’s the same location. Looking through Streetview history the street ‘furniture’ has evolved. A notable match involves the ‘tag’ on the bus stop sign from Streetview to the OP’s image. OP’s image certainly predates Streetview of May 2023 and, likely, 2019 also (which correlates with the original report of 2017). Not my first image/geolocate/match effort.

@rasterweb Might I offer that the new != better came very soon after stuff began to be inherently reliable & accessible. I’m told I’m a ‘boomer’. I grew up with TVs warming a room from valves/tubes. Transistor radios used LC circuits for tuning & drifted. I bought a Sony PLL radio circa 1981, it seemed ‘revolutionary’, eventually I dropped it too many times. CD was magical (obvsly, not really but seemed so). Digital cameras meant images, immediately. No 3rd party processing.

On the back of a Sky News (UK) report explaining that US refineries preferred heavy crude, as the majority of Venezuala’s reserves are, I did a bit of a dig. Broadly, this Sky News was correct. This heavy glop is preferred, maybe to be blended with naptha or lighter crudes before processing by US refineries to mostly produce gasoline & diesel/kerosene products. Heavy stuff good for that limited range of products.
