JOIN THE EARTH DAY PROTEST: 5.30pm, Wednesday 22nd of April, Leinster House
Next Wednesday, 22nd April, Roderic O’Gorman TD will be bringing a Green Party motion to the Dáil to mark Earth Day.
Later that evening, we will gather outside the Dáil to show public support and call on TDs to back this motion.
The protest will take place from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, and we need as many supporters there as possible.

Today, the Critical Infrastructure Bill means that any proposed piece of work designated as "critical infrastructure" will no longer be assessed for its climate impact. So this means that projects that definitely will have a climate impact; big energy projects like liquefied natural gas and electricity sucking data centres, these projects will no longer have their climate impact assessed when they're going for planning permission.

The people who are most vulnerable to energy poverty need help now. That is why we are proposing an emergency payment of €200 to each household who receive either Fuel Allowance or the Household benefits package. This would provide an immediate cash benefit of €200 to 752,000 energy vulnerable households
Recognising that these increased energy costs are impacting across society, we would also look at a wider round of energy credits, but this time with a targeting mechanism.

We cannot be passive actors in a world where policy is dictated by tech moguls.
We know from research undertaken in Ireland that recommender algorithms are vehicles for supercharging the most extreme and toxic content available on the internet.
The FF/FG government can't continue to take a laissez-faire “open for business” attitude to these problems.
Business interests must not trump the wellbeing of our young people.

One of the big changes between this Government and the previous one is that they have identified the use of LNG as an answer to energy security issues, but the past few days have shown that its supply is not secure in availability or cost.
@rodericogorman asked the Taoiseach when we will see the promised 5GWs of offshore wind delivered?
And if he will reconsider the policy to introduce LNG into our energy mix.

But what do new changes to the International Protection system actually do to reform the system so that it is focused on helping people in genuine need? And are decisions being made by this government purely political?
