@mausmalone@mastodon.social @ppulfer@mastodon.ie You can say whatever you want about CSD and Gnome design, but no Gnome app has problems anything like that. You can drag windows from any titlebar button on gnome and it works great also the titlebar is designed for this usecase and tabs are intentionally bellow it so that you don't have to interact with them to move the window

@alice@mk.nyaa.place @barthalion@social.treehouse.systems @luna@lunar.place I plan on migrating to codeberg, but it currently doesn't support using pages with CI/CD (if you want to use a custom domain), so we will be staying on GitHub until that changes (hopefully soon)

@alice@mk.nyaa.place @barthalion@social.treehouse.systems I just tried creating a new account and this greeted me. Last time I tried to do so it also required me to insert credit card information to be able to use gitlab pages

@barthalion@social.treehouse.systems The reason I will never use gitlab is that it requires me to give them my phone number and credit card number to do basically anything on a freshly made account. I want to escape GitHub, but GitLab is somehow even worse then unreliable microslop code stealing machine

@amadeus @fedora with @gnome, it's the most polished, best looking, easiest to use experience and I never had issues with it. The only reason I find ot hard to recommend fedora to new users is fedora's flatpsks being used by default and nvidia drivers, and codecs having to be installed manually. If fedora used flathub by default and had proprietary software that people want to use preinstalled it would be the easiest recommendation of all time

@davbram@ravenation.club The problem is that I don't want to work with legacy code and spend most of my time learning how other tools that I don't use and I don't even plan to use work and function under the hood. Any time I tried using blender I rage quit after a few hours because nothing worked like I expected it to (I'm not a 3d designer and don't know how to use any alternative either). But I do plan on having blender integration in the future for adding 3D elements to the suite, but that's for future me

@kenSwinson@indieweb.social That is the plan I have! But I first want to make a decent vector manipulation program before adding other features like raster editing. But all the code will be written with that feature in mind!

And now the most important thing: If you're an Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or similar program user, what are the most important features that even the most basic app needs for you to consider trying it? #Adobe #illustrator #Figma #Inkscape #design #illustration #art

Q: Do you have any experience in creating something similar? I have created a very barebones vector graphics editor in the past. While I probably will not use almost any of it's cod,e it proved to me that this is possible and it also showed me what not to do and how to do everything better.

Q: What will make my tools better?

  1. I want to make the whole system very modular from the very start. (More about it soon)

  2. I want to use exclusively hardware rendering (with an opengl software fallback)

  3. I want to make a system from the ground up that can be used for both vector and raster editing, that will also have animation and video editing support etc

  4. I want to use modern technologies and start from the clean slate without years of legacy code

Q: why do you think you can make something better then existing tools? I do not think I have to make something that is 100% better for everyone, just something that is better for *some* people. I want to work with artists from the start of the project to make something that caters to them and that's why I'm making these posts My priorities are on stability, speed and ease of use, while leaving a clean path to adding any requested features later.

Q: But what about existing open source tools (inkscape, gimp, krita...)? While I'm very greatful for their work and what they've brought to the community, I personally couldn't get used to them. They feel slow, outdated and are not made to work together elegantly. I also have friends that are artists that feel the same way. While I do believe that these tools work great for some people, they do not work great for everyone and a little bit of choice never hurt the open source community.

Hello artists of fediverse!

It's probably not a wild thing to say that we all hate Adobe and similar giant companies that make art software that:
1. Doesn't work on linux,
2. Could probably disappear tomorrow without any warning, taking all our projects with it and
3. Requires expensive subscriptions

I want to try and combat that by creating an alternative open source suite of tools!

@Gargron@mastodon.social While I agree with everything you said, Vivaldi is not open source and that is really important to me personally. I will try switching to Zen which is an open source soft fork of Firefox (similar relation as Vivaldi has to Chrome)
