I don't think it's a methylphenidate thing in and on itself, but meds like Concerta and its generic replacements you actually do have to take in the morning (ya know think like 8ish in the morning), because you very much *are* going to be up and about for 12-14 hours after you take it. It's specifically a slow-release stimulant, if you want something that will make you functional for only a few hours instead other options might be available (no idea which specifically in Poland though)

formulate what exactly it is that you like to read, what genres you like, what do you want the media to feature 1.1. (optional but helpful) come up with internationally known examples 2a. Find translations of books similar to the ones you like 2b. Ask native speakers or other people who speak the language fluently for recommendations based on what you like to read, through ways like a "Boosts wanted" post on Fedi or one of the countless language-learning communities you can find online through a quick search in your search engine of choice

@0xabad1dea The proper way to call it in Polish and Czech is "poczta elektroniczna" and "elektronická pošta" respectively, both directly translating to "electronic post" but it's a mouthful so I don't know a single person who would actually call it that, including people from my grandparents' generation.

@Haijo7 @0xabad1dea Yea, I don't know of any languages other than English that call a computer a "kiosk" outside of technical contexts. The mode of the browser is still called "kiosk mode" (because of course all technical terminology in Polish is poor anglicisms) but, directly translating from Polish, I'd call the type of kiosk you can find at a library just "a public computer", and one of those outdoors touchscreen ones just "the touchscreen".

@0xabad1dea I don't know how it is in Dutch, but in both Polish and Czech "mejl" (borrowed from and pronounced the same as English "mail") is an actual word that is used colloquially to refer to an e-mail message, an e-mail service or an e-mail address. So if Dutch has it the same it's incredibly funny actually because it's likely that the person is using a slightly incorrect calc of a word they know in Dutch, the word in Dutch being a slightly incorrect calc of an English word, just not exactly the one that you as a native English speaker would expect :P

@0xabad1dea Good, I forget what temperature melted wax is, but a small flame can damage some AMOLED screens in a matter of seconds so I was kinda worried. I guess there wasn't enough heat in it to get through the glass to the actual screen.

@rail Z jednej strony kurde, niedobrze dla transportu kolejowego w Polsce. Z drugiej, jako Polka mieszkająca w Czechach kogo jak kogo ale RegioJeta żałować nie zamierzam. W Czechach działali identycznie - najpierw wgryźli się na rynek oferując dobrą jakość usług za bezkonkurencyjne pieniądze, a potem jakość poszła w dół, ceny w górę. Poza linią Praga-Pardubice-Ołomuniec-Ostrawa (czyli jedyną która jest komercyjnie opłacalna bez państwowych dopłat) RegioJety są pociągami którymi się jedzie tylko jeśli nie ma wygodnego połączenia Kolei Czeskich, nie są już tańsze a ČD bije ich na głowę w zasadzie w każdym aspekcie. Literally every major Fediverse drama since I joined I have found out about not by seeing the drama itself, but by seeing people *complaining* about the drama. And just as well now, I don't really see anti-AI posts that much, I'm chilling over here with my bunch of queer artist and hacker creatures who might mention it from time to time but overall just... continue to do their own thing. So please, take some agency over your online experience. There's no algorithm in here to feed you only things that keep you watching ads for as long as possible. You have to put some work in yourself in order to create a nice experience, but I promise - it's worth it. (2/2)

@gloriouscow@oldbytes.space Something I hadn't seen anyone suggest: you don't owe anyone to follow them or see their posts. It's *your* online experience, not theirs. "You make me feel bad" is reason enough to block/mute/unfollow someone who raises your cortisol, even if you don't think they're a bad person. Additionally, I don't know what server software your instance is on, but Mastodon has... well not "good" per se, but definitely workable personal moderation tools. Keywords and hashtags can be blocked with reasonable accuracy. (1/2)
