@irene@discuss.systems @device@infosec.exchange Unfortunately that reasoning wouldn't pass where I work (also, to me, that's dangerously close to a different type of sexist thinking, however well intentioned) but FWIW when I have led recruitment or had a big say in it, I've always made sure that certain "soft" skills are in the required critera for scoring even at CV and Personal Statement stage. We get a good mix of interviewees but also it helped massively with sifting applications (between two rounds of recruitment we had to sift over 1000 applications for a total of 5 roles)

@device@infosec.exchange If you see someone being picked on, and you are in* a position to be noticed, you call it out. Even if you don't change the behaviour of others, that person knows that *you* have their back. Which is much better than feeling like you are completely alone. As for recruitment, where I am we do name-blind recruitment where we don't know names or ages until they accept an interview and then we make sure that interview panels are diverse, that our first questions are consistent, that everyone is aware of the criteria and that we have review meetings to make sure everyone can share opinions on interviewees. Its not perfect but no process ever will. *edit: heatwave brain can't english

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place Yeah, in an ideal world it would be super easy for them to reject it, but I think we as a community also have to be a little pragmatic about the situation around funding FOSS software too. Sustainable and fair FOSS funding is a challenge not yet solved (e.g. the Automattic vs WP Engine lawsuit is one extreme outcome of this challenge not being solved). In my opinion, it would be ideal if profitable businesses donated frequently to the FOSS projects they use and build on top of without being able to use it to whitewash their reputation. i.e. it just should be a part of successful business culture to give back, but alas, that is not the climate we live in right now. So I kinda of understand the position the Blender Foundation took, even if it is not one I'd have took myself in their place, but then, I don't know exactly what pressures they are facing.
