I am a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, lived and worked in Dublin for about 20 years returning to Tipperary to work in small family construction and engineering company in which I am now a director. I was confirmed as Autistic at 45. I enjoy meeting new people, most sports, playing golf, cooking and reading, initially psychology, and following my confirmation, about autism and neurodivergence. I also enjoy classic novels such as Dostoyevskys novels and plan on reading more of the classical novels

@undefined_variable@mementomori.social I can very much relate to that and have become increasingly aware of my intensity which is mine and I own it and have discussed with others and learned the effect it can have on others. I find that I can be quiet intense when emotional, positive and negative, but at balance I am actually quiet calm and serene so I observe that in myself to manage it

@undefined_variable@mementomori.social i think you could be right that we are so starved of connection that any connection becomes valuable and enjoyable even when the circumstances are not great. I've definitely experienced this due to spending imence amounts of time alone that sometimes any contact and communication is good. I have in recent years, having discovered this, made alot more effort in connecting with people for that social outlet, hence I'm on here

#actuallyautistic #autistics After a post yesterday this came to mind. They fuck you up, your mom and dad. They may not mean to but they do, They fill you with the faults they had, and add some extra just for you. I think the above is so accurate but also that becoming stuck in blame isn't the answer. For me acknowledgement, grieving, acceptance and understanding that we are imperfect human beings who make mistakes and are affected by our own experiences and histories helped to move forward

@graymattergrcltd@infosec.exchange from my underdtanding deep slow breathing causes the heart to slow down signalling the brain that the threat is over and all is safe. Fast shallow breathing activates the sympothetic nervious system into fight or flight. If you watch sprinters before starting a race they do short sharp breaths to activate fight and flight which directs blood to mussel groups like the legs. Playing the pipes maybe activating the sympothetic, fight or flight response

@barefootrambling@autistics.life @atarifrosch@fedifreu.de @autistics@fedigroups.social This maybe somewhat related. I always struggled with heat, until about 2 years ago I decided instead of consciously focusing on it, I would accept it, that I can't change it and that its temporary. I am actually managing with the current heatwaves without much issue and the only explanation I can think of was previously I was holding it in my awareness / consciousness and fighting it / not accepting it which I think affected my mindset and made me suffer

@barefootrambling@autistics.life @atarifrosch@fedifreu.de @autistics@fedigroups.social I've read that we can miss big picture items because of our focus on individual pieces. I agree with the statements above on sensitivities, etc and the correlation with how balanced or stimulated we may be before encountering them affecting our reaction to them. The cup half full analogy. I am still in a process of discovering / reflecting on sensitivities sot his conversation and everyones input is very helpful.

#actuallyautistic #autism #latediagnosedautistic Hi, after the breakdown of a long term relationship I became increasing isolated and disconnected. I read loads of psychology during this period which sustained me. Its during this period I did IQ test and after discovered I am autistic. I always felt i didn't belong and felt differences in these contributed and know certain traits I have don't help. I love to hear the experiences of other with making new connections

Hi all. I am fairly new to social media but giving it a go. This site was recommended by a new friend as a good place to learn about and connect with other autistic and neurodivergent people. I was confirmed as autistic just over 2 years ago and have read some books to learn about. I attempted to add a profile picture but the system keeps rejecting it due to file size dispite it being under the 8mb limit. I will try again later
