@ridogi @MrRooni I recently helped upgraded a family MBP from macOS14 to 15 (Sonoma) when we first tried to use the computer and forced a "go get the AppleID password" There was no ability to do ANYTHING else. I don't think the OS is fully operational at this stage
- is this because that's when the passkey was activated?

@kDelta It's good to point out the distinction between storing biometrics and what Apple does. I guess each device has its own set of unlock stuff stored in its secure enclave - which IS great.
Apple servers have gone down too much and there's too many great things about #1password for me to switch to Apple Passwords. Passkey use is a separate issue. The one I was forced to get - does work well.
1PW is owned by a Canadian company - but they have employees all over the world I believe.

@kDelta 1PW provides assists to prevent access loss including: family admins, web access, & emergency printout suitable for your safe.
My original point was an Apple screen w/ no way to enter anything but a password - you CAN’T use biometrics.
I can see the point that remembering an AppleID password gives similar functionality to 1PW - but not if
a. you have more than 1 Apple ID
b. you have any non-Apple devices
c. you want to log into a family member’s stuff
d. Apple ID fails somehow

@kDelta @rmondello Great … so do you make it easy to remember or write it down? 😖
Seems like an incomplete way to manage passwords especially compared to #1Password
There must be more to the answer - like that screen would have a spot to enter biometrics for a passkey or it will someday. Still, I don't think macOS is all the way up at that point so I'm not sure how a totally passkey world works there. Maybe you unlock another device first?

@rmondello Good to know!
Passkey adoption question for you:
I just upgraded a Mac from Sonoma to Sequoia and the first screen required a AppleID login - there was no way to get to 1Password from that screen. Does that change if I used a passkey? In my non-Passkey world I brought up 1PW on another device and typed my password - what would happen with passkeys?

@peternlewis Oh I didn't disable that macro - and I've consistently said “Don't allow” but it does copy the files as I wanted, so I think it must be something else asking for that access.
Memory use for the last little while is 28.6MB ! so maybe I need to poke more at if some of what I disabled changed that. It sure seems like it.

@peternlewis hmm - I’ll have to dig around. Does disabling a macro make it so macOS wouldn't ask this question?
It does generally take a while for the memory usage to build up. I just disabled quite a few - we’ll see if that changes anything.
My favorite macro was recently created after getting bit by iCloud sync going wrong between a few devices. So now I have KM copy a couple folders from iCloud nightly to my Mac that then get backed up in TM. Previously iCloud stuff could just disappear.

@peternlewis I just found a yellow warning in KM saying that screen recording was off. I turned that on - maybe it was running up against an impossibility?
Also I've been saying “Don't Allow" to the dialog below, Why/when does it need that?
"Keyboard Maestro" would like to access data from other apps. Keeping app data separate makes it easier to manage your privacy and security.

@peternlewis My main Mac is on Sequoia - maybe I have some notification turned off
I should thank you for Keyboard Maestro - I have it doing an ever increasing amount of things. I do sometimes wonder why the engine is chewing through 3 - 5 GB of RAM but I've sort of resigned to the idea that it needs it.

@peternlewis I wonder why I haven’t seen that - is it a macOS 26 thing?
Or do you have to unlock 30,000 uses in a month? 😏

@justkwin and now if we could just get another mini iPhone 🙏🙏🙏
I think I used Excel - but the case volume of the iPhone Air is about the same as a 13 mini so we know it’s possible!

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I certainly hope that the redact feature in Adobe Acrobat isn’t reversible. If someone used something other than this quality - then I bet it WAS intentional.
I mean we hate Adobe for aggressive pricing and marketing - but the software does work.

I think you should do a more full text message and assume people don't know what Mastodon is. Once you are printing a shirt you might as well use the space!
Mastodon - social media done better
✅ Not billionaire owned
✅ Actually Federated - like email
✅ Rules enforced by each owner - not evil!
✅ No algorithm & your data is not sold
✅ Alt text that gets used
✅ Safer

BTW redbubble . com does have some fun fediverse shirt ideas. Meanwhile etsy hasn't got a clue.

@flargh@mastodon.social @aleen@wandering.shop 👍 I wonder why C/D didn’t say it more definitely.
They were always so weird like the Le Car with the cloth roof and 2 wheelbases. Or naming a car a Fuego (fire!) seeing one overheat was very fitting.
