On the hiring side, people are getting flooded with an unmanageable number of mostly-shit applications. They are spending weeks trying to find acceptable candidates, only to turn around and have management close the listing. They're going to "fill the gap with AI." And it's not a fucking game. People are being driven into poverty. Or maybe it is; a shell game, rigged against the players and ruining their lives. This is unacceptable, untenable. I get that you're probably trying to be encouraging, but it doesn't sound like Peter's giving up. Just justifiably upset. @peter@thepit.social

@adrake Same, except for the one time I was there at 3am. Daytime Waffle House is a very different experience than nighttime Waffle House. Ran my first Linux User Group at the local library today. 8 people showed up, half of which were new to it and interested to know more. I'm in a fairly rural area.

There's community out there to be found.
