I do technical marketing stuff mainly but not limited to Google platforms (GTM, GA4, CM360, GCP) and with a specialism in consent managment / GDPR compliance.
Retro computers are what I actually love playing with.

@anatudor@mastodon.social considering how strictly Apple enforces privacy and how many users opt for “do not track me” when prompted by a newly downloaded app, I am surprised that companies are still pursuing an “app-centric user experience”.

@daz@floss.social @noybeu@mastodon.social that is not a realistic option. I’m not saying it’s good or desirable, but the reality is that when a brand is competing for market share they have to buy ads from Google, Meta and others. It would be foolish in the extreme to attempt to do that without sending data back to those platforms when a customer / member purchases a service on the site. When your annual budget for digital marketing is 8 figures, it is incumbent to spend it wisely.

@noybeu@mastodon.social as the person responsible for implementing and maintaining giffgaff’s consent management and cookie banner and with the UK no longer being part of the EU… what should I be aware of, what should I be doing and who should I be paying attention to in order to be as up-to-date as possible? I hate cookie banners, but it’s the best tool we currently have.

@jenesaisquoidirehelp @thomasfuchs Being technically correct is the best type of correct, but how do I install that on my Mac or my Windows PC? Fairly sure I can install it on my Linux laptop, but that's not my daily driver.

@thomasfuchs I can't disagree, but every time someone comes up with an alt browser, it turns out that the project is run by a complete fuckhead, isn't what it says it is, eventually has AI shoved into it or it has its own data collection for potentially unsavoury purposes. What browser can I acutally use that isn't somewhow mired in BS?

@druid@toot.wales I am trying to not have to deal with political nonsense. The Reform leafleting dude swung by our house recently and I gave him back his leaflet and told him not to come back. not impolitely, but with enough emphasis that there was no room for interpretation.

@avakining @jamesthomson The ICO are not the most well funded org. I have been part of the process where they put a site under investigation (my understanding is they tend to pick on the top 1,000 most popular UK sites). They did not bring up the mismatch in size of accept versus reject buttons, but they were absolutely on the ball with checking what cookies / platforms were collecting data without proper consent.

@jamesthomson I'm currently in a project where we will be changing the presentation of a cookie banner. It's currently a typical (but compliant) "Allow All" / "Essential Only". UK law changed and there is no longer a requirement for there to be a "reject all" because "we" are allowed to do some collectiong of data for analytics, A:B testing and some other things. I'm not sure if we're going to be one of the first, big sites that will be doing this

@slowe likely closing down my tiny Ltd due to this. The software I’ve been using since forever is not MTD and their support are ignoring questions about it. All of which means of course that instead of paying 21% basic corp tax rate, if I do any future freelance I’m going to pay 40% and still have to complete a tax return. So I’m probably going to scale back the freelance to £1k / year total simply to avoid the hassle.

@gmh I remember during the iOS beta period when age verification notices were being seen and Apple said “whoopsie, that’s just a bug!” I thought at the time “interesting how an unintended side effect of some other code randomly displayed a full age verification UI as a bug”, but here we are. Clearly the bug was “you weren’t supposed to see it yet”. Anyway my Apple ID is old enough to not make me submit documents. My Apple ID for my work phone though … ehhhh

@a@beige.party Thanks. I’ve already got it on an IoT specific WiFi network and can use Commoserve. Beyond that I’m just going to load up a few ROMs here or there and play with some real 5.25” disks once my drive arrives.

@d1@autistics.life I really hope not. However I did spot that someone has finally managed to get a relatively big restock of C64 compatible keycaps and I have an otherwise unused Mechboard replacement keyboard that I could use more as a daily driver.

@d1@autistics.life I would probably prefer the Starlight edition, which still has rainbow puke RGB, but is still far more muted of an aesthetic than this one. However, this one represents my appreciation for and hope in the return and continued success, however long it may last, of the new Commodore.

Initial thoughts, it’s very fucking gold. Searching the online (there is WiFi, don’t worry, it’s on my IoT network only) software database reveals how few actually recognisable games are available via this official channel. This thing works basically the same as my other Ultimate 64 (pre-Commodore version, basically) except with a bit more spit and polish. The keyboard is wonderful to type on.

@ptoothfish@mastodon.nz I've done a thing I said I would never do and it was partially driven by Microsofts undeniable continuous enshittification of Windows. I have today ordered a MacBook. I was recently sent one as a work laptop (work want to standardise their laptop fleet) and I found the learning curve wasn't as awful as first feared. Took me 5 days to get comfy with some of the odd paradigms.

@julien@breizh.social @angiebaby@mas.to @Gyom@mastodon.social this is what happens when you implement TCF on your site and you forget to provide a list of the partners you do actually work with. The default is it will list every recognised partner. Solving it is as easy as providing a JSON structure listing the IDs of the partners actually involved.

@julien@breizh.social @angiebaby@mas.to @Gyom@mastodon.social Had first-hand experience with this. Implementing TCF (v2.2) is apparently difficult and causes this common pratfall. It's unlikely 1383 partners are actually involved. Not impossible, but highly improbable.
