@Xavier@infosec.exchange I won't be writing any code (intentionally) with it. I use it more for reports, proposals, and sales stuff. Etc. I gave it my weekly report this morning. We'd worked on it a couple of hours in the sense of me teaching it, shall we say, little nuances I wouldn't expect it to know anyway, and the damn thing produced a report ten times better than mine had been. I expect to be replaced next week. 🤣

Right, children, got your rocks, stones, pebbles and bags of gravel ready? I've just taken out a yearly subscription at work for Claude AI. Having tested ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude extensively, I have to admit Claude is a clear winner. If I had to rank them, I would say Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT probably fifth! ChatGPT has very poor integration with many business apps and seems to struggle to give you what you ask for without at least four attempts. #AI #Claude #Copilot #ChatGPT

@Li@tech.lgbt No, that's called "Choice" or better still, self-determination. You will have made that choice of your own free will; nobody has made the choice for you. Personally, I prefer mute to block, but having said that, both go against my principles of free speech. I truly dislike muting people because it's only through dialogue that we can find mutual ground, or at least a tense peace.

@Li That’s how it always starts, though: “community safety”. “use ALT text”, “add hashtags”, “we need moderators”. Piece by piece, people hand away freedom while convincing themselves they’re being virtuous. The Fediverse was supposed to be free. Block, mute and curate your own experience — but don’t pretend social pressure and moral gatekeeping aren’t forms of control wrapped in nice language.

@andypiper 'Contact' as we know it is on its way out. The rise in websites no longer feilding contact forms or even contact email addresses are growing. Telephone numbers being displayed either on company websites or even Google is in decline. More and more 'support' is being handled by chatbots and AI. I could automate around 40% of our fault calls tomorrow if truth be told. How do I add my email account? I need a VPN setting up. My machine ce needs the drives mapping To name a few.

@sesivany Hmm? So the AI stuff is irrelevant. This is actually a Governance failure. No legal structure No trademark ownership No clear governance By the looks of it, everyone could do as they pleased, which is a commendable attitude, but unfortunately, as the community has found out, there are always opportunists out there. He doesn't own the code, just the name. I had a similar situation a while ago when a local company, bizarrely, hadn't registered the domain name. A competitor bought it.

@cmccullough I know a very prominent member of the FOSS community who refused to use any proprietary software. So much so that they didn't have Wi-Fi capability for a few years; then, one day, about twenty years ago, I read that they'd installed Ubuntu on a MacBook. I applaud your principles, but I think over time you'll have no choice. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@ken_fallon@mastodon.sdf.org All these post-crafting requests are killing the Fediverse. The whole point was that it was simple, fun, and the posts were throwaway bilge. We're heading down the path of "Don't do that", "Don't do this." It needs to stop. It's bad enough I no longer have freedom of choice whether to add ALT text or not; now you're demanding hashtags! Something that should be a two-second, shoot-from-the-hip post is turning into a thought-out, crafted blog post rather than a microblog.

Every time you see someone on the Fediverse saying, for example, "We need protecting from right-wing influencers!" that's the coattails governments ride on. "Ooh, they want protection! Let's implement a check system, for their own protection, of course." Every news report you see where someone was encouraged or driven to commit suicide or self-harm, governments use that as justification to lock the web down. 🤷🏻‍♂️ @wadavxx @Tutanota

@stefan@stefanbohacek.online I work in sales. You'll never get a true 10,000, but it looks like a nice round figure. 🙂 Of course, there are other factors to consider. Are they live accounts, etc.? I remember we used to have the same conversations around Distrowatch https://distrowatch.com/ How accurate are those figures? Just because someone downloaded a Distro doesn't mean they installed or use it, for that matter. 🤷🏻‍♂️

All this talk of ice and minerals is a load of old rubbish, but the Russians have proved humans can survive in space for a long time with Mir, so building a structure on the moon is probably trivial by comparison. Imagine the horror that would sweep through America if NBC broadcast images of the Chinese flag on the moon? 🇨🇳

They're going to the side of the moon that cannot be seen from Earth, perfect for ensuring nobody can physically see what you are up to. NASA has already said it intends to build a base on the moon, and let's not forget why NASA was created. It was created in response to the Russians and Sputnik. Now, America is in a new race with China just about everywhere.

@HerraBRE For over 20 years, FOSS has done very little to protect developers' intellectual property, other than trumpeting the GPL. Many executives have heard of copyright but not of the GPL. Code has been 'stolen' since day one; it's just that there are now tools to hoover up code on an industrial scale. If only #FSF could do more. 🤷🏻‍♂️ @rysiek
