@HaTetsu @moof IMO Polish railways are the best value for money in Europe. Well renovated trains, not too much delays & yeah you can cross the country for 20-30€.
But checking this again made me realize how much of a rip-off DB's "Flex Europa" is in Poland: 62€ instead of 19€ (79 PLN) for Gdańsk-Wrocław in 2nd class for example. And with DB you can't choose your seats!

I took a safe option from Zurich though, with 1 stop on each way to explore Barcelona and Montpellier. I could afford that as I had the privilege to be able to spend 3 days travelling each way.

I feel that there's quite a self-fulfilling prophecy about long business travel by train. The booking experience & timetable coordination is poor so everyone books flights instead. So the railway companies & travel agencies assume that business travelers don't want trains longer than 2h and don't try to improve the status quo. Mix in a US-centric mindset and voilà!

@HaTetsu Any price comparison methodology based on cherry-picked examples is doomed to be highly biased. Reminds me of the Greenpeace piece last year (https://www.greenpeace.org/eu-unit/issues/climate-energy/47717/low-cost-flights-up-to-26-times-cheaper-than-trains/)
For an accurate comparison we need a holistic price database, but as we often discuss here in the #bahnbubble that requires strong open data regulation 😉

Interesting data point in @OlivierRazemon@piaille.fr's blog: 90% of car drivers (in a rural town in France) always use the same parking spot.
Perhaps explains why removing a handful of spots at a hyperlocal scale often leads to very vocal opposition, even when at the scale of a city statistics show that car usage decreases, or when even in small towns there is approval for more pedestrian areas.
