In theory, you could host your own PDS and only subscribe this one small relay with an AppView that only pulls from that relay and you're effectively building a small little instance, except you store your own data instead of the instance admin doing it
Which is kinda neat

@thisismissem @nileane The relays are the hard part, they're big and expensive (currently they basically handle all of the traffic for the whole network)
As the protocol builds itself out, ideally we can get some smaller relays that start to look more like different instances on the Fediverse that would be easier to run
