@jackdaniel@functional.cafe @screwlisp@gamerplus.org Thanks! @jackdaniel@functional.cafe , sounds like ESA is worth checking out! Maybe @screwlisp@gamerplus.org could be the defibrillator :). If that doesn't work, those docs will help!

@screwlisp@gamerplus.org Thanks for sharing this example with the code! I'm going to install mcclim soon and I'm keen to try this out. I do wonder if the full ICR experience can be recreated in McCLIM, or whether the opinions of that interface are somehow incompatible or would require too much retrofitting. Based on your examples, my instinct is that the ICR thing is very possible, but I need to wait until I try it out before I can make a confident call there.

@screwlisp@gamerplus.org This is so cool! This is slightly different from the user experience of ICR in emacs which happens in the venerable minibuffer, but I can see how this could be useful in CLIM. Does mcclim have a comparable component to the minibuffer? https://www.chiply.dev/videos/vompeccc-spot-demo.mp4

What makes #emacs easy for you? We often rail against what makes it difficult, but I think its power users are such because they understand its patterns.

I'm working on a composite series that I might turn into an eBook called "Emacs is an Effortless Bloom". The goal of this series is to facilitate Emacs usage for beginners and masters alike by highlighting the areas where using Emacs makes computer use easier, not harder.

What makes Emacs easy for you? What does it facilitate?

@dpiponi@mathstodon.xyz I wonder if one of either Sawe or Kejelcha were absent, whether either of them would've broken 2 hours. It's amazing how runners can push each other beyond their, or indeed any established envelope, in races like this.

Just joined Mastodon a couple days ago and thrilled to be part of this vibrant community!

I write about #software architecture and #emacs on my blog. Latest post: https://www.chiply.dev/post-vompeccc-spot

The blog publishes long-form content intentionally, and all implementation guides, tools, and OS projects are licensed under permissive licenses to promote re-use, even for profit if you like.

This blog is an elaborate thank you to the #foss community, and hopefully my way of giving back. 💜 :emacs:

Cheers for reading, Omar! I'll burn more characters with gratitude: your commentary on this is invaluable. In retrospect I wish I reached out to you for this editorial platinum.

I'll add this to the post (some time tomorrow)

  1. Embark works with built in commands (I regularly do M-x after I invoke embark as I'm very lazy defining keybindings)
  2. I'll include (before ivy/helm) a section on Icicles. This will greatly improve the story in the history section

@minad@mastodon.world @jameshowell@fediscience.org @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz Love the left-click analogy. For those similarly inspired by the amazing Hyperbole package (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrTpTNEXMyY) Sorry for the lack of attribution, but I remember reading: 'If Hyperbole is the double-click feature, embark is the left-click [or context menu]'. I can't find this post, but I remember John Wiegly talking about hyperbole as a sort of realization of Tim Berners Lee's notion of the WWW inside of Emacs. Embark is at least that and more.

@jameshowell@fediscience.org @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz @minad@mastodon.world Author here. Just wanted to thank you for posting this, James. I joined Mastodon yesterday and was thrilled to see this shared here, and also thrilled that Daniel and Omar are seeing this. You guys are like celebrities in my world, thank you so much for your work on VOMPECCC packages, both in the code and influence you provide there; and thank you for reading my article. That made my day!

@jameshowell@fediscience.org @minad@mastodon.world @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz I agree, this will pay off massively. It's one of those beautiful emacs packages that shows you a pattern (arbitrarily many commands associated with specific types of candidates), and in doing so 'teaches your how to fish'. Karthik's "Fifteen ways to use Embark" was pretty revelatory to me (I think it's already been shared with you). If you're adding Embark to the mix, Karthik is your spirit guide.

@oantolin@mathstodon.xyz @jameshowell@fediscience.org @minad@mastodon.world Author here, I'm over the moon that this resonates 🌝 ! I went out on a limb being more abstract in this initial post, so it's actually super relieving that the thesis landed, especially since you authored to and contribute to a lot of the VOMPECCC constituents.

@wirthy@functional.cafe @jameshowell@fediscience.org While I prefer using the packages individually, I think this is actually a really good idea because I'd imagine many people share your view, using 8 packages to do 'one' thing (completion) is a lot. Who's going to implement vompeccc.el? 😀
