I need to say more about this -- and I need to read the whole thing though. The opening paragraph of examples sounds more like abuse to me than empathy. That's not proper work behavior.
The nice thing about the discipline of sitting down every season to discuss and write down the goals for all the lab members, including me, is that at the end of the season we can actually check off and celebrate that various goals were achieved!! 🥳🎉
The folks who've been in the lab for a few rounds get really good about both being realistic and yet achieving good milestones, I've noticed. They don't hold back, and we cheer for any goals achieved. 😁
I am amused: last year I had a planter I was trying to grow mint in, and it was plagued by bugs and failed to grow well.
At the end of the fall, I took some of the last bits and put it out in a spot where possibly the previous owner had a veggie garden --it's all clay and stones but it's a bordered area. I figured if it makes it, great.
We now have a massive collection of mint growing out in the rubbish bed. 😂 😂 It's tall and fragrant and has left no space for anything else over there. 🍹🍹
Aw fooey. I figured out a plan to see my dad for Father's Day, but my brother and his family leave town the night before. (That's *one* way to avoid tedious family get-together planning, given all the people who can't be in the same room with each other these days. 😭)
Basically we'll have to jump around from family chunk A to chunk B to chunk C, over the few days we can be there.
See, the thing about "Wise Man's Grandchild" #anime is where he has to kill his friend who becomes a demonoid, and he's a little troubled for a bit of the next episode, and that's it.
There's a devaluation of human life there that disturbs me.
I'm understanding of the idea that if you focus on hate, if you are constantly angry and nurturing a sense of paranoia and self-injury, that you lose your rationality and become a demon. That's a common theme recently and I think it's a decent metaphor.
OMG omg I got accepted as a Fellow of my primary professional society!! 😁 (A Fellow means your career contributions are recognized, basically.)
I didn't think it would fly but it did!! I put myself forward, and asked some previous Fellows to be my references. It was shocking how hard it was for me to write that application.
😁 Many years ago, I got turned down by another prestigious professional society for membership, and that still stings! So this feels GOOOOD. ❤️
Aw geez. Dense fog advisory this morning, and IT STINKS!!
I have never noticed fog stinking before.
I looked up what can make fog smell bad and apparently it's a thing this year. Pollutants in the air get caught by the fog molecules. It's being reported all over the past month and some.
I think it is a commentary on the current leadership. 😂
Right: One grant submission is in; one that's due Monday is down to its 12 pages, ready to go; the third due Monday I have promised to review as needed on Sunday.
One collaborator does everything in Endnote and Word and emails me the document; one group of collaborators does everything in google docs and Paperpile; one group is a mix of google docs, and the lead PI holding a Word master file.
Flexibility is our watchword. 😂 At least there wasn't an Overleaf group as well!
