How to end up with software steered by only your non-professional users: "1. The user beta is now live! Please test it and give us feedback. Now is your chance to influence development and help the team refine!" "2. As always, beta versions are considered EXPERIMENTAL and should not be installed in production environments! To avoid loss of data and other serious issues, do not use the betas with mission-critical work."

@xerz@soc.masfloss.net No, I don't think it needs to be evaluated? That's what I was posting about. If you let Google scrape your site, going forward, you get no benefit out of it. They aren't going to send anyone there. Nobody even gets to read what you actually wrote. They'll read some error-prone AI's rewording of it.

@xerz@soc.masfloss.net blocking Shorts requires an extension that rewrites the pages using JavaScript. it's outside of YouTube's software (their site/pages). That's like arguing Google will let you use the old search forever if you install an extension that creates a results page using a different service.

@xerz@soc.masfloss.net "will still be able to use Google like always" Just like I used to be able to remove irrelevant results from YouTube search by changing a hidden option in the preferences? Or choose which Windows updates to install by changing a few registry keys? Or keep uBlock working in Chrome with a hidden prefs change? Or hide YouTube Shorts? Or disable the passkeys prompt in Chrome?

Assuming Google goes through with their newly announced changes, there's no longer any reason to not block their crawlers, right? They aren't going to be sending anyone to your site, just stealing what you wrote and rewording it with errors. So.… why not just block them?

@jackdaniel glad other people are starting to notice this. the people spewing out AI stuff and assigning it a GPL license are clueless. the code isn't subject to copyright and thus can't be assigned a license. (code licenses rely on copyright.)

Notably, these effects emerge after only brief interactions with AI (∼10 minutes).

AI is worse for your brain per minute than playing offensive lineman in the NFL.

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place Two of the big ones I see in the document are: 1) Prompting for a result means you are accepting the machine's interpretation of your prompt, instead of creating an expression yourself. (The prompt itself may be copyrightable, but not the output of the AI.) 2) AI prompt-and-response systems often produce different output for the same input, further diluting the idea that the human is actually in expressive control. The part about the Jackson Pollock painting method is also interesting.

Uxn32 3.0 is out:

https://github.com/randrew/uxn32/releases/tag/3.0

* Updated to be fully compatible with the newest Uxn specifications.
* Added high DPI and per-monitor DPI support.
* A brand new pack of bundled ROMs.
* Still works on Windows 95 through Windows 11, and builds with every compiler for every architecture, including "native" Wine builds with GCC and Clang using Winelib.
