The absolute best part was I thought I had fried the brand new power supply. Because the device under test went dark, so I differed I had triggered the over current protections. Reset all the things, still dark. Too the meter out if the supply loop to measure things and it came back, but even with lights on I had no voltage? It wasn’t until I put it in continuity mode to check something in debugging no voltage that I finally figured out what I had done.

Welp, had an engineering right of passage tonight. I’ve been using a multimeter for well over 4 decades now, never once have I blown a fuse in one. Until tonight. Wired it inline via the “fused 400mA” path with a 12v power supply, put it in Amperage mode. Proceeded to walk through the process of using the device under test… got the 23mA idle measurement, the 37mA armed measurement… then triggered it to pull the full 15A the supply was capable of. Oops. (Surprise, it was actually a 500mA fuse!)

Hey straight people, here’s your chance to stand up and be an ally without leaving the couch, or wherever you are reading this. Take a moment to tell the FCC to pull its head out of its ass please. Here’s a great write up on what’s going on, with directions on how to help.

Yes Anker’s support is fast. But OMG are they incompetent. Sending me debug steps that are physically not possible on this unit and telling me it has connections it clear as day does not.

@ramsey@phpc.social uh, is that extra “, by” in the last line of the version output a typo? Or is it supposed to be different and more cumbersome to read than the other lines?

Grepping the source does find a couple GTK3 references... in an "unfinished example" of what a future port to the "GIMP Tool Kit version 3" might look like. Yeah, I don't care if you've updated your software for the new 2025 rules... that's terminally bad technical debt management.

Installed and fired up a new application tonight, its UI is a total shitshow of overlapping text, buttons, input fields and labels. Nothing is un impacted. I assumed it was just built against the wrong library version since the project distributes a single binary for all Linux systems 🚩via a tar.gz 🚩. Pulled the source (had to install svn to do it🚩) and tried to build it. But needed to install the dev package it needs to build against. 🚩 It was GTK2. 😳🤯🤬🚩🚩🚩

@kboyd@phpc.social there is a tool for automating that. It has a daft icon iirc, but once you know what to look for it makes this easy. I’ll fire it up and get the name in a minute. As for the not closed wire… that’s a pita. The easiest solution is to just start trying to adjust things and see which one doesn’t pull attached corners along. I usually save the file, do that until I find it, then reload from disk and go fix that joint.

Anyone in my circles know much about ms365's new typescript based scripting in excel? I'm trying to figure out how I can share some common code between a number of different functions. Right now I'm literally copy/paste-ing it around between them when I need to make a change (thankfully rare). But this is typescript, I should be able to put this in a shared resource of some sort and just call it from many places. No obvious way to set that up I can find. :(

@bobmagicii@phpc.social @afilina@phpc.social ah yeah. It’s a large thread about how Dorsey founded Bluesky as a place for the crypto bros, libertarians, and uber capitalists… but then left in a huff when instead it got filled with trans folk, furries and academics. And how as soon as blocking became a thing, all those OG weirdos found themselves shunned into a corner.

@afilina@phpc.social much like here, the Bluesky experience is very much dependent on the community you seek out. The discover tab isn’t much of a feed, it’s really just there as a place to bootstrap your experience. There are a few php related feeds users have curated, but I see more activity in some of the subgroups like craft or laraval. I have to say though with the phpc.social server here, this community mostly lives here. A couple of my other communities however, dead/toxic here, flourishing there.

@greem heh. I can imagine you do. I have feelings about the form of cancer that took a chunk out of my ass a few years back as well. I’m surprised there are still debates. My doc said the false *negative* rate with DRE was “unacceptably high”, and that modern blood testing’s false negative rate was “nearly zero”. In any case I think we can all agree the most important things: Get tested. Get screened. Catch it early.

@greem as a 2x cancer survivor I say #fuckCancer! Congrats on kicking its ass so far, keep up the good fight! And as a fellow AMAB who just hit 50 this year, I’d tell all y’all: don’t fear this checkup… the DRE is, in the words of my doctor, “a relic of the past”. Modern blood tests are far more accurate. If the blood test gives reason to worry they’ll schedule a detailed exam. And you should be getting a colonoscopy anyway! Which will apparently spot enlargement just as well.
