@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place it’d be cool to add wall sconces, if you could limit its impact to a single tile, maybe you’d have to animate it a little though

@lindsey@recurse.social I worked on an operational transform based one for a while, which was an evolution from Google Wave. There’s server authoritative versioning which defines a window of operations (deltas) that need to be resolved when merging. The structures are built from data types that are carefully designed (category theory) for associativity. Clients merge local deltas together then send it with their server (and client) version. The server sends back a delta for the resolved changes since the client’s sent version.

@lexfeathers I often find it hard to enjoy classic genre defining films because of a similar thing, they’re often only good when compared to what came before them, not what came after. Everything good about them has been ripped off by subsequent films and their message is diluted by comparison. I don’t have the context of someone watching it when it first came out, when it was perhaps subtle and unrefined, but at least risk taking and original. I wonder if that’s what’s happening here with Bladerunner.

@lisyarus@mastodon.gamedev.place looks interesting, I’ll read it later! I feel like it’s obligatory for me to link https://herbie.uwplse.org/demo/ here. It’s an excellent tool for finding alternative math expressions which are faster and/or have better float precision.

@aras@mastodon.gamedev.place total garbage, it changes the environment and lighting as well as character faces. I wonder if the face is even consistent from one scene to the next, or if two similar enough characters will be blended to the same bland generic face

@cwebber@social.coop I don’t think this is a mark against your goals (or exclusive to), but I think what many people like about Fedi (and some people dislike), is that it doesn’t have to be ambitious. It’s often not growth oriented, it doesn’t measure success by number of users, it’s often small friendly communities like a small town where people are friendly and recognise each other and assume good intentions. People are more themselves, and not putting on some business facade, and that’s often rewarded by more genuine conversations and deeper connection. Quality over quantity perhaps. For me, in the case of computer games, I tend to avoid social aspects because it’s stressful to me. I have nothing against being able to play with friends, but I don’t want software to default to throwing me in with strangers when I’m trying to relax. Although that’s what many games are nowadays because it’s an often successful growth strategy. Making it easier to collaborate, share, if you wish, and not be owned by a corporation, sounds good though. Social to mean friendly, not to mean some kind of viral marketing growth strategy.

@bflipp@vmst.io you might try canva.com, they’re remote friendly, use aws extensively and use snowflake (or at least, used to). It was a great place to work when I was there. They’re adding lots of international offices, but used to do a lot of their engineering in Australia, so it’d be worth verifying if remote from your timezone is fine for whichever team you apply for.
