Hilarious that he’s going to put more tariffs on Canada because the smoke is blowing down there, as if this is not all a direct result of the toxic American fart cloud that’s been blowing up here for a hundred years. Anyway we don’t really care because we’ve gotten really good at not buying anything from there or ever travelling there.
And no one wants your creepy American diarrhea food.

Half of the province is literally on fire and the Prime Minister is out there selling pipelines and scrapping environmental protections. We are unbelievably lucky to be out of the city this week which is simultaneously so nice and rather terrifying as everything is orange and smokey and very hot. I’m outside alternating with worrying and trying to brush up on my very rusty fingerpicking. Stay cool and safe everyone.

A peaceful morning coffee after cleaning a big mess. You’d never know the wild raccoon bacchanalia that occurred here at 3am. Several plants smashed and uprooted, votive candles tossed and destroyed and part of a HUGE wasps nest that, alarmingly, I can’t find the rest of. That probably would have been a more captivating picture. Anyway there are filthy paw prints everywhere and the dogs are on edge. Somehow we carry on.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com I have this Vox 4Watt tube amp that I bought for about $299 Canadian around 10 years ago. I see on the Vox site that it’s not in production anymore but I see them for sale used quite a bit. Nice clean tone, really portable, only 2 knobs, tone and volume plus a knob that switches it to 1 or even 1/4 watt if you want it to break up and distort without being super loud. @strayhorse@c.im I’ve got this mic! I got it from Long & McQuade a few years ago. It’s OK! It’s kind of UA’s version of the Shure SM7b, so it’s sort of a broadcasty/podcast close-talking mic. I’ve used it on some voiceover stuff and under snares. I grabbed a desk-boom stand thing so I always have it beside me if I get vocal ideas, so I don’t have to set up a mic stand. Decent mic for the money! And you can use UA mic modelling. Doesn’t sound like a large diaphragm condenser at all though, obviously.

I used to joke that I’d be the last person on earth who’s never been on Facebook or got a tattoo…but a few years ago I surprised the family on Father's Day with a small tattoo that’s a version the same thing that my wife and 3 kids all have tattooed on them. heheh. @Undercat Yeah. I mean it’s a nice community event once you break through all the blues lawyers and old white dudes playing truly awful dad rock to see the more fun and interesting bands. I suspect it’s said old dudes using ai and gatekeeping the Facebook page. And Facebook is super gross generally but neighbourhood FB groups are their own special kind of pearl-clutching vile so it’s not surprising they deleted the comment. What are ya gonna do I guess.

#OpenTuningFestival in our 'hood is a cool initiative with amateur musicians playing from their porches and garages. My youngest was going to volunteer this year but noticed that all their posters and website uses gen ai art. They wrote an (I thought) very constructive comment to the FB group expressing concern about ai stealing from artists and surely there are small local artists that could do illustrations, etc. The mod deleted their comment as “rude and unnecessary.”

@jessamyn So funny you posted this. Just last night I was asking my wife, “what would be the most embarrassing thing we could throw out on garbage day that all the neighbours would see.” I decided that a large portrait of myself would be the worst. Our garbage isn’t that embarrassing but i admit I peel the name and info labels off my prescription meds bottles before throwing them out, just because paranoia.

Olivia (Live 2020 Basement Sweatpants Version)

Back at the start of covid me and one of my kids did a sloppy semi-live version of my song Olivia for an online thing. Beer and many false starts but it’s an honest performance, aside from the bass track I put on after. So sue me. Thankfully you can’t hear the dogs galloping above us upstairs, which is one of the many fun perks of recording in our basement.
