@feuerrot@chaos.social thanks! that looks promising at least, I might have to end up poking around and see if I can use the sequence from there though that datasheet does mention there being a high voltage that's needed on a pin to enable write protection, so it's also possible the pin is permanently tied down on those sticks, I doubt it though because every vendor with this chip fails to unlock, so perhaps it just needs the right command

@lukyan@lukyan.eu In my case I was not able to get through to support, they really don't like residential customers getting ONTs. I've heard what some people do is they call them again later and insist they want to move the funbox somewhere else, at which point they might need to give you an ONT.

does anyone here happen to know how SPD chips on server RAM work?

we have some sticks with this chip that have the same part mumber as all the others, but the spd flash doesn't want to unlock using the program that came with the spd flasher we got and the chip looks a bit different

is this a case of it being fused in hardware, or is there maybe some software that can unlock these?

the reason I need to flash these is we have storage appliances that check the entire SPD region (not just the model) and shit themselves if it's not the exact one they're expecting

@Baa Configuring IPv6 on a router:

set up firewall rules
add IP addresses to interfaces

Configuring IPv4:

set up firewall rules
set up NAT and a bunch of port forwards because you only have one v4 (if you're lucky and not behind CGNAT)
oh shit now you can't communicate with your server over the public IP, time to also set up hairpin NAT!
wanna add a new device accessible over the internet? oh you better start remembering what ports everything is on, or just give up and set up a VPN to access everything, assuming it doesn't need to be exposed

The worst thing about IPv6 is still having to set up IPv4 alongside it, I really want v4 to die

@puppygirlhornypost2 what reddit did with the API changes is probably the biggest tragedy for being able to find anything on the modern web I used to (and still do sometimes) add site:reddit.com to a lot of queries to find actual information that's not AISEOlop, and now that's a lot more annoying at least doing site:forums.servethehome.com is still a good way of finding some obscure technical information, and I wish there were more actual forums for weird stuff like this
