@Natanox @djlink friction really is the bigger problem over having an alternative to begin with. even the proprietary discord clones (the one run by the roblox people?) can't compete.

@Natanox @djlink I had a link floating somewhere to some people reimplementing the discord API. Sure, that's centralized, but maybe not the worst idea to piggyback off the real client and real discord auth with a mod to route requests selectively for now and go fully independent later? I think it was missing a voice server though.

@djlink ok, this sucks. unfortunately i have no idea where one would move. and even if i did, how you'd get more than 1-2% of people to go with you. discord only got so big because steam, xfire, teamspeak and foremost skype all sucked at some part of the problem. but discord doesn't suck in the same visible ways.

@ariadne@social.treehouse.systems my favorite meeting with a major cloud provider was when they broke a managed cluster for a "mystery reason", invited a bunch of people to a meeting with a bunch of california-based engineers and managers in the call (we're EU-based, so notable) and then admitted they noticed their toggle for confidential compute did nothing, tried to "fix" it quietly without notifying us to not trigger a compliance cascade and then crashed our control plane in particular "just a reminder that you signed an NDA with us" - lol i didn't, but you can probably guess which provider anyway.
