@jakub_neruda@techhub.social I would add one more option: Implicit sharing. It uses shared pointers internally, but behaves like a copied value to the outside. It will only do a deep copy if someone wants to change their copy. In your example, you would probably just pass ownership of AnimationStates, no copy, no crash.
Does make it somewhat harder to debug memory leaks.

@LeedsPHP We took a closer look at mobilizon, which was mentioned a few times. Seems to do all a meetup needs.
However, we concluded that for now, it's easier to collect monetary donations than volunteer hours needed to set up and maintain our own thing. We run a little snack and drink buffet, and people put more in the box than the things cost at the store.
If you happen to have a couple of people who would do that for fun, mobilizon is probably a good choice.

So unless you opt-in to the unsafe parts, you'll be forced to change parts of your mindset or give up in frustration.
I wonder if learning Rust would make C++ developers write safer code eventually...
