@axel_hartmann@digitalcourage.social Looks like it's a model 28, no suffix. The letter refers to the factory, but there's no letter for Elizabethport it seems.

The search came up with 3 manual versions:

  • https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/singer-models-27k-28k-sewing-machine-manual.pdf
  • https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/singer-model-28-sewing-machine-manual.pdf

Does the wheel on the right side spin freely?

@juliancalaby@social.treehouse.systems The decals have light damage but are intact, but the paint on the hand crank is a bit tarnished and cracked. It's not mine though, I fixed it for someone. It was given to her by a late relative. I kinda prefer the 99k, as the stitch length adjustment is way easier to use. Same with the bobbin mechanism and bobbin winder. Also you can convert to hand crank if you ever feel like it, mechanisms can be found online :D

@juliancalaby@social.treehouse.systems The cause for the tiny stitches was found, we un-tightened the linkages at the bottom when trying to get it to move again, and forgot about it. The feed dog was not moving its whole range. The attached stitch picture was with the length knob adjusted to the max 😅 Your machine is beautiful indeed, it's nice seeing one in action

@axel_hartmann@digitalcourage.social If you have pics and a serial number, I'm willing to dive in that rabbit hole I learned the technical terms on the way, but I don't remember most of them

@magnetic_tape@infosec.exchange Technics RS-M1, I got it shortly after Techmoan released a video about it. It still needs replacement belts

@axel_hartmann@digitalcourage.social Sure! The first thing to do is to identify the model from the serial number. There are tools online, I used the one on ISMACS (look up "singer serial database"). Then you can find the user and service manual with where to lubricate it. I found mine on archive.org. I had some issues with threading, and I found multiple videos and forum posts about this. There's also people making videos about repairs, I especially like this channel: https://youtu.be/ySIPQAnG4yg

Cozy weekend repair, a Singer 15K sewing machine from 1907. It came in completely seized and dirty, and now it's both shiny and working!

It took a lot of penetrating oil and heat to get it to move again. Now it's smooth as butter and makes lovely (but tiny) stitches. I just wish I had wax for the wooden base, and to get the finish to look uniform. The camera doesn't show the tiny blemishes.

Can't recommend fixing sewing machines enough, it's fairly easy, well documented and the result is very satisfying.

Edit: added before pic

@rcmd @vcfberlin For a brief time I had a Neo Freerunner (Openmoko), it came from the old workplace's dumpster. Although it was obsolete, it was still used as a Linux phone devboard due to the hardware being very open. I do have a Yopy in storage, but I never booted it.

@kbob@chaos.social I hope I'll have your luck. I was reading this documentation because I might be able to get a PDP8/E with a TU56 tape drive and a RK05. I don't think the rusty hard drive will ever work again but one can hope.

Some neat info about 70s hard drive contaminants.
