Something along the lines of "this isn't new, remember we had a fire that year too (20 years ago)". I wanted to point out that 4 fires in the area this year so far, after 4 last year, is quite different from a solitary one in an occasional year.

@akareilly@hachyderm.io they are all good things to target, but... most evil corp tools don't pass these tests.

• most are inaccessible
• usability suffers with enshittification
• communicating with evil corps is harder than an in person audience with a deity

Replacing evil corp tools without evil corp resources while setting a higher qualifying bar is not an encouragement for alternative producers.

.@lehtimaeki@snapp.social it's an egregious case of regulatory capture. Use regulators to block Chinese cars, dilute/Friday EV requirements, under invest in EVs, and squeeze profits selling outdated ICE cars to trapped consumers. It's one of the few areas where being inside the EU is a drag - all European consumers are paying for German car industry's regulatory capture.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social my takeaway is different. It comes from a sticker, "writing code was never the bottleneck." Deciding the right thing to build, the right way to build, marketing it, acquiring and retaining users, and getting them to pay. These were the real bottlenecks. AI hasn't accelerated any of them. Accelerating the non bottleneck part of a system doesn't make the system better. It makes it worse.

Saw an engineer put Opus to work to resolve Detekt failures!

Then another engineer asked them why they replaced multiple narrow catch blocks with a single one catching a generic `Exception`?
Answer: "detekt warned about this and AI fixed it to this"

(detekt had warned about a different genetic catch block further down in the class!)

Skipped all meetings today except stand-ups and a book club. Did great work all day. Then stopped well in time and went to the gym. Had an excellent HIIT session with a great crew.
Perfect day.

(Might have to pay for the skipped meetings later)

Moved indoor plants to their warm month positions.

Had to empty the conservatory and breakfast room since they get too hot. But can place them next to radiators and in North facing windows now that heating is switched off.

India is a hatchback & sedan country (though crossovers are picking up), Europe is largely hatchback and crossover, US (from my visits nearly a decade ago) was trucks and sedans

@robpumphrey@mastodonapp.uk no one at the top probably has driven themselves in years. By the time we get down the chain to the ones whose lives are inconvenienced by not driving, they'll be too inconsequential to change policy. I'd instead suggesr we park a bike in front and behind every Waymo in the bike lane. They block the lane, we block their cars.

@botteaap interesting analogy. It might have changed but when I last lived in India ~16 years ago this was standard bank fraud prevention practice for personal accounts. If I added a new recipient, I had to wait 24 hours before I could send them money.
