And now it's harder to fix because the code that is produced is truly a black box and all you can do is roll the dice and hope the LLM will fix it.
I can see a world where we generate a bunch of mediocre code and it keeps working, heck that's probably a lot of software already, but I still think you need to understand and reason about the code.

Did a release for the version catalog update plugin again :) Mostly minor bug fixes and one quality of life improvement so that IDE noinspection tags work like keep and pin options in the version catalog.

@lehtimaeki@snapp.social I get that and I'm glad it's working for you. For me though it isn't really. I'm confronted with slop PRs and folks that can't explain what "they" did. I use AI to explain me code because there is no process to talk about what the thing should do. When I try AI to solve a problem it usually leads to a bunch of fluff that I need to extract the solution from. On the internet I'd read that I'm holding it wrong, that I made a mistake using the tech. I'm worried about the social aspects

@lehtimaeki@snapp.social I think what gets me is not "why would I use a hammer" it's the nature of having a LLM do all the hammering without understanding why the nails are needed (I'm stretching the metaphor 😁). LLMs seem to have an appeal because they produce results. To some only the outcome matters. "It works" or "it sounds good". I personally enjoy learning, creating and understanding. I do not want a world where we race towards outcomes without understanding what we are doing or struggle to get there.
AI in the hands of a professional would be good use and more productive. But I seriously doubt it. Reviewing slop code is not fun for anyone and the urge to just accept whatever is generated is strong.
Also why do we need to be _more_ productive? How is that serving really? The whole premise of wanting or being more productive is a fallacy. I'm sure we are just producing massive amounts of tech debt, feeling super productive because we don't really look at what the token machine is spitting out

And are they going to hike the prices because the economics of running AI models are not there.

There's this VIES API to check EU VAT numbers. It's free and supplied by the EU.
There's also viesapi.eu that calls that API and made some wrappers around it and offers a subscription. It ranks #1 on Google.
I'm pretty sure their business model is people that cannot find the free API. It has a EU-like logo, .eu domain etc etc
Some would call that smart, but it's just very scummy to me.
We all love to hate the Play Store, but I just submitted an app update, it ran automated tests and reported a crash on older devices that I missed. That's pretty awesome.

It's called skills.md but it's actually patterns in baby language. Again smart naming from the ai folk. In the real world me reading an Ikea instruction manual doesn't give me any skill as a carpenter either.
I keep coding until late so that I can throw away that code the next day after I have come up with a much simpler solution under the shower

Second time that I'm trying to have a composable draw outside of its bounds but not working. Last time it looked like it was clipped, but now the "clipping" is at a weird place...the layout inspector shows that the thing is laid out correctly 🤷♂️

Het enige doel is maximaliseren van de winst. Je profiel anoniem maken is dus blijkbaar letterlijk je naam van het profiel halen wat de recruiter ziet, terwijl ze de rest van je gegevens gewoon (waarschijnlijk voor eeuwig) opslaan. Hoewel ze het nu écht gingen verwijderen. De bewaartermijn is blijkbaar niet meer van toepassing 🙃
Misschien leuk voor mijn ex-collega's die ook via Head First ooit bij de overheid zaten: Ik heb mijn account lang geleden verwijderd. Ze zeggen dan dat je profiel anoniem gemaakt wordt, want wettelijke eisen voor bewaren van data etc. Vandaag krijg ik opeens vacatures in m'n mail.
Ik bel om opheldering te vragen. Aan de hand van mijn naam hebben ze in 1 sec m'n bedrijfsnaam en email erbij, maar mijn profiel staat écht op anoniem hoor
Lijkt er dus op dat er heel weinig anoniem is aan anoniem 🙃

Also interesting that code from that lib is forked from another lib that is MIT but that code is clearly using and inspired on the Google Maps compose lib without attribution...or they moved that code in later...I can't tell but doesn't inspire confidence
Playing around with the sort of official MapLibre compose wrapper and it's a bit strange in that it for example passes around MutableState objects 🤔 And stuff that I want to get to in MapLibre is not accessible...tempted to roll my own little wrapper just for the things I need.

yesterday in overengineering was me having my two Android TV boxes with my custom launcher and some other tidbits sync the apks I installed manually over to the other box so that I don't have to adb twice 😬
Have a song^H^H loop and a sample singing "calling me". Put the sample in the thing and all of a sudden it sounds like "come in me" 🤦♂️ It wasn't meant to be a song I guess
People should stop asking a question followed up by "this is wat ChatGPT/Claude says" (followed by a wall of text).
Sure, ask an AI, try to figure out if it's correct or not, but don't put the burden on those you ask the question.
Also answering with "this is what the AI says about it"...don't, it's rude and I can do that myself if I want. Just assume I already did do some Googling/AI-ing/whatever-ing.
