Thank you, autocorrect, for helping me tell my friends that I love hot cross nuns.

One of my big annoyances is that the replacements to paper statements for everything is having to log into a crappy website at your own initiative. I stay signed up to paper statements for a bunch of things because I know I would never do that. I wish they would just email them as PDFs -- if someone hacks my email I have far bigger problems than them reading my bank statements.

From the pieces I've seen, I'm not sure that K-Pop Demon Hunters is the most realistic film.

Replying to @lxtof@framapiaf.org
@lxtof@framapiaf.org My uninformed guess is that they will target roughly equivalent performance to the Steam Deck on a 4K TV.

Oh, I'll be very interested to see the pricing for the new Steam Machine:
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steammachine
I love my Steam Deck and mostly use it docked to a 4K screen. I would also be interested to try the controller.

The Ubuntu Summit starts today (and I will be MCing a little of it)!

This year it will be a remote-first event, allowing participants from all over the world to join in. These are always hard to do well, but I really hope we can figure it out. That anyone can join, wherever they are and in whatever circumstances, has enormous potential.

Join us here and help us make it a success:

"TARmageddon" is an interesting security vulnerability. This post is well-written, so take a look, but my initial reactions to it are:

1) Rust is an excellent language choice for systems programming to remove memory-related bugs, but it cannot prevent logic bugs.

2) Whether your dependencies are security maintained has a direct impact on how quickly you can react to vulnerabilities.

3) Forks can lead to challenges when patching security vulnerabilities.

TIL, despite being on the Euro, Montenegro is not in the EU. Importantly, this means I do not have free roaming. Thank goodness for eSIMs.

I have been thinking a bit about background removal on video calls, particularly with all these new laptops landing that have NPUs etc. It starts to make it sound more logical to run something locally and use that across different videoconferencing platforms. Are there any open source projects that are focused on providing a Linux virtual camera or similar with GPU/NPU background removal?

I came across:
https://fluendo.com/blog/real-time-ai-background-removal-with-gstreamer/
which looks interesting, but proprietary and not Linux.

GrapheneOS backup has #WebDAV Cloud as an option for backups. Does anyone have any recommendations for a simple self-hosted WebDAV server that I can spin up on my Ubuntu server to use as a target?

My #FOSSFriday for this week is diffpdf. It's a super-simple tool for comparing two PDFs that you can install from the Ubuntu archives. Really handy for comparing changes in contracts, terms etc. I've tried a few and it was the best, but it does now look discontinued. If you've found a better one, please let me know!
