The hope with memory prices is maybe they start optimizing WebKit, Chromium and Electron.

If updatectl update fails. Try running first: run0 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-sysupdate vacuum. Then retry updatectl update. If you are having more issues updating, come to the Matrix channel, open an issue or reply here.

After updating to systemd 260 on #gnomeos, we had a few hiccups with GNOME Software and sysupdate. The main issue being the system getting stuck to a version and never telling the user there is a newer version available. If you are using GNOME OS, you should check if the version is at least "nightly.1034493" (Settings -> System -> About -> Operating System Build). If it is older and Software does not find a newer version, open a console and run `updatectl update`.

@pid_eins@mastodon.social for the context of GNOME OS, I do not think there is a point optimizing for DVDs. But it sounds like a fun project. What I was interested in was if the new El Torito boot we added in systemd-repart worked out of the box on old firmware and with a big ESP. It does. But turns out AMI did not like how systemd-boot loads the UKI. I will open a PR that fixes that this weekend. And then others can start fun projects.

@zbyszek@fosstodon.org @pid_eins@mastodon.social it is a live. So /etc is created from tmpfiles. I think we should add ld.so.cache in the factory.

@pid_eins@mastodon.social yes I was joking about the speed. 3gb. I think having dm-verity on a separate partition might slow it. Also running ldconfig is a bad idea. I could do some more testing but I do not know how important this is.

GNOME OS's systemd-repart built DVD booting under 10 minutes on real hardware. Soon available in systemd 261! https://youtu.be/AWBVCl0RatU #dvd #asmr #gnomeos #systemd #retrocomputing #uefi #speedrun

@ondrejkolin@mastodon.social @mattiasb@mastodon.xyz @jsparber@mastodon.social That was a work of ~3 weekends. The minimum to get rid of the old installer iso. So it does not have many features on purpose.

And I 100% recommend the movie. La Soupe aux Choux (1981).

@daneharrigan@mastodon.social Since 2020. Also my son and my wife who have no idea what it is, use it every day too. And they never complain about it not working. You can use it. But note that we might one day do changes that requires re-installation or manual migration. Also it is a nightly build of GNOME, which means there are often changes.

#GNOMEOS finally has a system extension with h.264/h.265 codecs and drivers (the same as Flatpak's GL.default extra and codecs-extra extensions combined) This will make them available to non-Flatpak applications, like GNOME Shell which needs it for efficient screen recording. It also finally fixes missing thumbnails in Nautilus. This was a feature requested by many of our users. `updatectl enable --now codecs-extra`

#gnomeos has switched to systemd-confext to handle /etc. The migration is automatic so you should not notice anything. But if you encounter issues booting or logging in, just ask on the Matrix channel. Or ask me.
