@peter@thepit.social I don't know. I've been digging into Amodei lately. (Since that F'd up mini-manifesto). I think he's perceptive in some ways. Like he sees the facts but draws only evil-coded conclusions. Or take Thiel. Guy is batshit insane, and as far as I can tell, an intentional villain. I don't know if he dropped too much LSD or what, with all the apocalyptic theology stuff. But he clearly knows his way around literature. TL;DR: More scary than dumb, to me.

@peter@thepit.social Man, carrying around law school debt for legal knowledge I barely used professionally and now probably couldn't if I wanted to, I know what you mean. I like the knowledge I got, the price tag is a real bitch though.

@peter@thepit.social It's been so gamified it's completely abstracted from the underlying stocks, debt and commodities. Although I have seen some posts of people who didn't realize futures represented actual goods and got stuck with e.g. 10,000 barrels of oil they had to take receipt of. Which is entertaining!

@peter@thepit.social I've been closely following the related contracts for this on Kalshi and I have been blown away by the gullibility of the markets in relation to shit Trump says. Every time (and it's like 5 now?) he says it will be over soon or the Strait is open, the oil futures plummet. Days later, reality sets in, prices right back up. Repeat.

@kloetzl@genomic.social The answer to 1 & 3 is all over the place. If it's good, you wouldn't be able to tell it's AI. The answer to #2 is art (at least gallery art, as opposed to we're-all-artists art) is a social status marker not a quality gate. I mean, a lot of human galleries are garbage. Banana duct-taped to wall? Knowing rich people > artistic talent. Which is not really to say that AI apps, art, and games are great. Just that there are epistemological problems with your heuristic.

I don't completely grasp what their angle is but I dimly see it's something to do with controlling how 3rd parties can access AI on your computer. It's about capabilities that aren't ripe yet more than the immediate uses. Guinea pig deployment. The model itself is fairly innocuous. The bigger issue is just jamming 4GB+ of software on people that just wanted a damn web browser and don't GAF about AI.

@RickiTarr Seems like posting "Hey I used AI to make this and I like it" is pretty brave in an environment where nearly every post on the #AI tag is someone bravely declaring all use of AI soulless, criminal, etc. Or did you not just pre-emptively critique and judge those people? Most is no-effort garbage but I've no doubt some distrurbed souls are pouring everything into it as a new medium, and denying it doesn't make it "not art", just unpopular.

@davidcelis@xoxo.zone These articles miss the point I think. You see it as something lost. These poor people missing out on the fun of a complex and intellectually satisfying profession. But... most of these millions people who have now experienced "vibe-coding" aren't *trying* to be software professionals and don't miss the satisfaction. They are just suddenly able to do things they couldn't. They're proud of running their first scripts! That's really fun. #coding #AI

@daveSmeg@mastodon.social Really? The #AI hashtag is mostly people giving hot takes on how bad AI is and how soulless its users are. Polls show 45% or less on people wanting AI. I think anti-AI sentiment being under assault is about as real as the "War on Christmas". Anti-AI is the baseline not the exception.
