This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Protemnodon

In the early-mid 1800s, fossil remains of several different species were found in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. They were sent to English biologist Richard Owen.

In 1874, he would name a newly found kangaroo relative Protemnodon anak.

Protemnodon is thought to be physically similar to the far smaller Wallaby. But the largest ones grew almost to the size of Procoptodon, the giant short fact kangaroo.

This one I would rate as medium. This mid sized marsupial is known from Australia.

In 1975, Jim Jensen found fragmentary remains near Dalton Wells Quarry, Utah.

In 1991, Jim Kirkland, Robert Gaston and Donald Burge uncovered even more remains.

In 1993, Jim Kirkland named the species Utahraptor ostrommaysi after the state it was found in, and John Ostrum, who investigated Deinonychus and its relationship to birds, and Chris Mays who helped research Utahraptor.

This one I would rate as easy. This is the largest known of its family.

Over all its not a bad movie. I would rate it just below Rogue One (or around the prequals), with a solid 8/10.

This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Sinoceratops

The holotype was found in 2008 in the Hongtuya Formation of the Wangshi Group in Shandong, China. It consists of a partial skull, including a braincase.

Paleontologist Xu Xing and colleagues described and named Sinoceratops, in 2010.

Sinoceratops was the first ceratopsian found in Asia. Its not exactly clear, due to the fragmentary nature of the fossils, how they related to American ceratopsians.

This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Gigantspinosaurus.

It was found in 1985 by Ouyang Hui near Jinquan, and reported as a Tuojiangosaurus in 1986 by Gao Ruiqi and colleagues.

It wasnt until 1992 when Gigantspinosaurus was described and named by Ouyang for an abstract lecture. But the name was generally considered a nomen nudum (not recognised as a species) in the west.

In 2006 it was disclosed that the abstract contained sufficient description to be recognised as its own species.

This one I would rate as easy. This Chinese dinosaur is known from the Jurassic.

In 1984 the fossil was finally unearthered

In 1987, before being formally described, it was called Jiangjunmiaosaurus in the press. This is a nomen nudum (a name with inadequate description, thus its invalid).

In 1993/1994, Zhao Xijin and Philip John Currie named and described the type species Monolophosaurus jiangi

@randahl@mastodon.social my experience on blusky/tiktok is sadly similar. My posts on here get 4 boosts, 14 likes, and on blusky i get 1 repost 4 likes, and on tiktok its 12 views, 1 like... So yeah, ngl its almost not worth it since tiktok decided to randomly nerf all my posts from the 300 view range, to the 4 view range for no reason beyond me talking about the extinction of the thylacine and showing its bones.

Here we see an updated version of the #LEGO #Fossil #Museum.

It now has over 100 different species, designed by over a dozen different people (Either on #Rebrickable, #YouTube or #BrickLink #Studio #Gallery.

Thanks to everyone who added their designs to this mammoth project.
