@simon I love your last sentence about the idea: "if a PR was mostly written by an LLM, why should a project maintainer spend time reviewing and discussing that PR as opposed to firing up their own LLM to solve the same problem?" So good! I think I put it into the contributors.md of my projects.

@jalefkowit just a couple of days ago I read from someone here on fedi, that they searched for a new domain on godaddy and a couple of minutes later (they did not buy it) it had the typical 'this domain is owned by godaddy' redirect and the domain was much more expensive. There might more stuff going on with that company.

@EMR @thomholwerda would be cool to know what you find, but the joy of programming for me was always the Problem solving aspect. Finding the correct architecture and the puzzle the code together like a mix of memory and the 1000-piece cloudy sky puzzle. It is cool, but it is not helpful for commercialisation nor FOSS because sometimes you need stuff to be done.

@thomholwerda The reason it got worse is probably rather the pressure through time. If we try to stick to the translation compare, then imagine that you found parts of a text you already did at 10 different locations, but with slightly different context. At some point you would just be happy if that gap could automatically closed so that you can concentrate on the parts that you never translated, yet and this is what is currently happening. LLM is closing that gap. Unfortunately sometimes fails.

@grvsmth I think there isn't actually a lot of assembly in the trainingsdata so LLMs can't really generate assembly and I'm not sure if you could do modern software dev well with assembly (ignoring the readability) @jonny

@scy tbh this is interesting. also with the recent dispute, that AI-Generated images can not be copyrighted. if we move it further than this code might automatically be CC0. but this is just speculation. @susankayequinn@wandering.shop my students tell me they don't like AI. They hate to learn AI prompting at school (one of the teachers is apparently doing that) It is tedious, they hate it and rather want to think on their own. I think the kids are fine as well ~
