@StarkRG @jonm I remember learning the following rules back in 2005 or even earlier:

• Praise specifically and criticise generally

• Double all time estimates made by your developers and take them to the next unit (e.g. 2 days become 4 weeks) before passing them on

• Agree on a clear vocabulary, write it down and stick to it

The last point especially helps with quickly seeing which employees either lack the necessary precision/focus or tend to make things overly complicated

@StarkRG @jonm This is all standard management advice, TBH, but too many people in management positions don't follow it.

@ZachWeinersmith That was already the case pre-"AI". Connecting something to the internet has meant 24/7 scans and attack attempts against all running services for a very long time.

The #AI hype has been over for a while. Stocks no longer rising, valutations falling, data centers not being built, companies having trouble attracting investment.

Whoever starts the next hype gets lots of money. Now is the time to make sure it's something mankind actually needs. Defenses against the #ClimateCatastrophe, #Renewables, #EnergyStorage, #Fusion, Chemistry without fossils, #Biotech, Advanced Medicine, Hardened crops, etc.

Not #Blockchain, AI, #Crypto or some of that crap again.

@backtoanalog "3 years" seems incorrect, it shipped less than two years ago.

The (poor...) way #Linux handles Out Of Memory situations, and the lack of sophisticated application lifecycle management in FOSS toolkits, can make life on #LinuxMobile not so much fun. When memory fills up too much, devices lag and random stuff breaks.

@fakeshell@fosstodon.org from @furilabs@fosstodon.org ported #lmkd from Android to "pure" Linux and improved it in many ways. It consumes much less resources than #earlyoom and took my #FLX1 to over 5 days uptime for the first time!
