I'm a web developer living in a monument to man's arrogance: Phoenix, Arizona. I grew up with Star Trek and Star Wars, but later added a heaping dose of Fantasy to the pile. Then I "grew up" and thought adults don't do those things. What rubbish.

@wilbr Even when I was young and innocent I somehow knew this would never happen. And it sucks that we literally *cannot* make any sort of foss competitor simply because no media company is going to allow their content on an unlocked platform. I would love something that could intelligently jump from self-hosted music to Spotify/tidal/whatever if something I want isn't in my library.

It was a nightmare 48 hours, but the sale closed. We're officially done.

This is the first Saturday morning in a while where I literally have *nothing* to do.

A friend has graciously let us take over her house while she travels. The cats have (mostly) settled and are snuggled up against me in bed. It's a quiet morning for me while the girls still sleep. I can read more Carl and Donut nonsense while sipping my coffee and post about it on the internet.

Move out on Thursday, closing on Friday. Then we have a month or so to figure out how we're dragging ourselves and the cats cross country. And whether or not we sell our older car.

@zrail @happyborg Yeah. I'm in the process of setting up a cloud backup of the super-critical data. But a 2nd set of drives has always been cost-prohibitive. Especially *now* (thanks, ai bullshit)

Does anyone have experience with long-distance moving and transporting their computers and homelab over a couple thousand miles/kilometers?

I think I may just put the harddrives in a spare cage, stick that in a static bag, bubble wrap it, and keep it with me in the car while everything else is put into a storage container for shipping.

I don't have a ridiculous amount of gear, but it's more than I can put in the car with us.
