@jerry@infosec.exchange considering how much of our tax dollars go to subsidize the oil and gas industry, it is ridiculous that gas is that much here. I do get that Europe and the UK have much higher gas prices but they also have more fuel efficient metro cars that we just don’t get here (like there’s maybe one model of Fiat available in the US that fits that model, and technically the Leaf is one but a PEV in an apartment complex is not a solution) and their taxes have historically not gone to cracking open new oil wells in previously protected national park lands. . . It’s ok though, Exxon is a small indy energy company that needs our help and understanding in these trying times. . .

@douglevin@infosec.exchange Anthropic is very good at the "we are so scared of our own machines" hype method.

The only thing any AI models are going to do is lower the entry bar for RAAS platforms.

Schools still need to shore up the fundamentals around identity and permissions. Mythos and other AI suites don't change the primary attack vectors. Just volume and speed.

Maybe the sky is falling and the end is nigh. . . I still gotta pay my rent by Friday. So I'll keep tasking the basic tasks until someone builds the anti-skyfalling pole, cause I am not equipped to build it.

@funnymonkey@freeradical.zone yeah that’s an interesting one, and part of how anti-vax and tradwife culture have become weird big tents.

Growth in homeschooling is a response to “education isn’t working”, but the primary sources of homeschool curriculum skew heavily towards conservative values.

The edtech blowback is moving folks from both sides of the aisle into the “classical schools” community, which also skews heavily towards conservative values. Without other options people will just do what they believe is best for their kids and end up in conservative social circles that will move the needle further to the right.

If the left side of the aisle doesn’t start acknowledging that there is a problem and providing meaningful alternatives to what we are doing now, things are not going to go well. . .

But I have a walking pad at one of my desks at home and a pair of sneakers there. Right there. Ready. And some days I look over and say "I need to do that for a few minutes. Just a few." and I get up and I do it. Other days I say that and I say "nah" I'mma sit here at the other computer and play video games.

The days I get up and do the thing are getting more frequent. This week has had more obstacles than the past ones. So It's been less than I would prefer. But it's there. It's simple to do and some days I do it. Whether it's 5 minutes or 20. I did SOMETHING. All I can really do it keep trying to improve and not spiraling when I don't do the thing.
