Think your Clouded Yellow might actually be what I called a female Brimstone, a few days ago on here :-)

A colourful collection of four butterflies, seen during my walk last Sunday along an old lane :-)
The Brimstone vaguely resembles the leaf it sits on. I saw it land, then lost sight of it for a while. The others were more conspicuous.

Made a breakthrough today: the friendly Robin I feed finally took meal worms from my hand :-)
Not sure of its gender, but it spent ages sitting close by and watching as I relaxed on the garden bench. It looks around a lot - quite a wide degree of head movement - but no song yet. I wonder whether it's thinking of moving in!
Found two old nests: one in a nest box in a (died of drought) willow tree, and one in an old boot I put up, under the cotoneaster.

Last Summer, I saw my first Brown Argus butterfly, so this year, I've been looking out for them in particular and have found quite a few :-)
I was really please to see one in my garden, and found several more by the nearby canal and at a local nature reserve.

Here's a vibrant colour combination - a female Brimstone butterfly feeds from purple-loosestrife in the local meadows, yesterday :-)
I always like to see Brimstones, but haven't seen very many this year. The male is a buttery yellow, and I read that the term butterfly perhaps derives from their colour. The female is more of a lime green to pale yellow.
The flowers are growing in a dried up seasonal pond, which allowed me to approach a bit closer.

They say that, as you get older, the policemen start to look younger. But, did you know, they also look smaller?

Two dragonflies snapped a couple of days ago, both basking in the warm, dried up margins of small woodland ponds.
I think these are a Black-tailed Skimmer and a Ruddy Darter (but, I'm happy to be corrected).

This dragonfly turned up in my garden this morning. I wonder if it's a Common Darter, perhaps the same one I saw a few weeks ago.

By the way: the face isn't quite what it seems, but is so comically cartoon-like :-)
