Persecution of someone because of gender choice or sexual preference is fascistic and a sign of a coming fascist state--if we don't stop it. No country's forced or even psychologically coerced sterilization of anyone, or any group, should be tolerated. I worry that much more violence against trans people is coming in the USA. If there's a fascist takeover it'll be systematic.

Any murder is tragic, violence against trans is fascistic. To be genocide the killing needs to be widespread. Forcible sterilization of trans persons I have not heard of. I could go on disputing your interpretation. I guess what my hesitation is: genocide is a word that loses power if it's applied to, say, persecution. Persecution *can lead to genocide* but isn't genocide yet. The persecution must be stopped!

And it did! Rwanda is a great example. But hate speech alone is not genocide. It is a *warning that genocide might be coming*. As a writer, I don't like to blur words. We need to stop persecution before it becomes genocide--everywhere. However I'm not arguing with anyone's use of the term--not anymore!

But when I just looked at the 1948 UN definition, it didn't really match up. I mean, when theyre talking about making life untenable for a group, they mean like when the Armenians were starved to death.. But: "in 1948, the United Nations Genocide Convention defined genocide as any of five "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group." These five acts were: killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births and forcibly transferring children"

I can't feel comfortable about some of that myself but I accept the usage now because if it feels that way to you, then that's what it is to you. What is happening is barbaric oppression and they're using trans folk as a stalking horse politically and projecting their own sickness on them, drumming up violence-- that's plenty bad. Trans women and men are being scapegoated--and the Jews were scapegoated.
