Just posted a new devlog for our C-based web engine, Archimedes!

It's been a long road from Pygame to a custom C/Emscripten stack. I'm breaking down the architectural hurdles of moving away from our Daedalus library and how my collaborator @smattymatty@socialontario.ca has been stress-testing the engine with a vampire survivors clone and recent game jams.

To celebrate the progress, I've rewritten my old ( and very broken ) Game of Life simulator from the ground up. It's a great feeling to see a legacy project running smoother than ever on new, custom-built foundations.

@smattymatty@techhub.social Reading this brings to mind a classic Captain Picard quote. He once told Data, "Part of having feelings is learning to integrate them into your life, Data, ...learning to live with them. No matter what the circumstances ... Sometimes it takes courage to try, Data. Courage can be an emotion too." I think we all can learn something from that.

Working with strings in #C can be frustrating. Buffer overflows, manual memory management, tedious concatenation - it's easy to make mistakes and hard to write clean code.
