I think the Good Place put this one best....
OH, and almost forgot: It's name is Sir Prints-a-Lot. Joining Printy McPrintface.
So....after this weeks #BitFlip episode (https://bitflip.show/6/) I put my money where my mouth was and picked up a Snapmaker U1. Shipping was quick (ordered Thursday, arrived Saturday). Setup took a bit longer than I remember setting up my Bambu P1S, but so far I am impressed.
Initial impressions from first print/setup:
- Print quality seems good
- Touch screen is nice
- It's biiig.
- Absolutely floored by the Klipper/local control. It has a webui!!!!! HomeAssistant data is incredibly detailed (to the point of likely overkill)
Still to do: Install the Paxx12 extended firmware (because of course I am) and get the setup/integration between Spoolman and Snapmaker working with some NFC tags.
I don't know what I"m going to do with my P1S at this point, but I think I've just entered heaven when it comes to open source prints.
Valve really knows how to package things. Excited to give this a go! Initial impressions from just picking it up are that it's really nice.
Wishing now I'd gotten 2....
Maul: Shadow Lord. Good stuff (just finished episode 5, no spoilers!)
Fun tools/things I've discovered down the rabbit hole in the last couple of days:
- Chezmoi (https://www.chezmoi.io/): A dotfile manager that is incredibly flexible and lets me do templates to only some files (and even parts of files) depending on certain information on the host (IE don't install KDE files on non-KDE systems).
- Backrest (https://github.com/garethgeorge/backrest): A web GUI for your restic backups. Was having issues converting my autorestic setup to work on the Aurora-based OS on my laptop. (It's a me thing, nothing wrong with autorestic otherwise).
- RememberWindowPositions (https://github.com/rxappdev/RememberWindowPositions): WANTED THIS FOREVER WITH KDE. Loads windows back to where they were on your screen. Fully customizable. Only want some apps to be in the same place? Want some apps to open in different virtual screens? No problem (and much more functionality)!
Soooo....Steam Controller is coming. $99. Who's buying?
Tonight I've been learning the absolute magic of Chezmoi for managing dotfiles. I clearly was doing this on extreme hardmode before.
If anyone is willing to share their dotfiles github so I can poke around I'd love to browse!
Absolutely *stunning* image from Artemis II.
I've gotten a few of these now...it's the weird spam/phishing/idk what even to call this type email I've ever seen. It's so transparently bad. I guess they expect people to call that number?
This was a fun one. Was inspired by a post on /r/selfhosted to buy a cheap $20 bluetooth label printer and set up HomeBox. Took the basic premise and (IMO) did some streamlining/improvements, and really happy with how it turned out. Been a while since I forced myself to work through a problem like that.
Now the far less fun part of cataloging all my crap....
