@tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl @Kelbaz@mastodon.social yes, but let's assume I don't want to terminate it just yet, maybe it's some scientific application that runs ui and expensive logic on one thread because nobody could be bothered to fork first, and I just want to move the window somewhere more convenient for checking if it's done. Windows handles this by unconditionally making the decorated area draggable if the application is frozen, but how would one do this on GNOME? (…though this *should* be fixed by the application)

@tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl @Kelbaz@mastodon.social @gnome@floss.social Both SSD and CSD have their drawbacks. SDL only implements CSD because they have to, and as such nobody really cares about anything beyond basic functionality. So currently you get the drawbacks of CSD (freezes along with the rest of the application, potentially inconsistent across apps/toolkits) and those of SSD (does not integrate with the application's functionality, doesn't match the application theme)

@tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl @gnome@floss.social then i'm technically still right, because it's not a distro's job to support csd :D

@tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl @gnome@floss.social That's great, but I was referring to Server-Side Decorations, a thing XDG has standardised the protocol for by now, but GNOME has refused to implement. This is suboptimal because certain applications (eg. everything using SDL) don't consider it their job to draw their own, so they don't get one at all on GNOME. To be fair, the spec says all clients must be able to decorate themselves, but it'd look better if Mutter just decorated the windows itself. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/work_items/217

@CmykStudent@fosstodon.org I'm not sure if exposing non-destructive parametrized shapes in the GUI makes much sense before stepping on Inkscape's toes, but hey, *free features*

@scops@social.tchncs.de @inlovewithpda@chaos.social @Eggfreckles@mastodon.mit.edu I really don't like how GNOME combines the customizability of Apple's mobile operating system with the resource efficiency of Microsoft and the simplicity of systemd. Worst of all worlds, a DE that needs more resources than a phone can offer is a shitty DE
