The point of thinking about the impact of swapping the races is to demonstrate that it isn't a neutral substitution.

The debate here is about whether or to what extent, it should be considered offensive or acceptable or some combination of both, to say things about whites that would be both offensive and unacceptable to say about other races.

There seem to be three options:

To introduce into a conversation "A=>B ; C=>B" is to imply the existence of relevant connection between A and C, which you invite the reader to discover.

We can't say that someone else should/shouldn't be offended. The best we can do is guess if a 'reasonable person' would be offended. And you would agree that if the word white was swapped for any other race, what she said would be offensive?

@robinshipton@writing.exchange @matunos@mastodon.social To me, it reads as a deliberately provocative tweet, deliberately going close to the line, constructing a hostile "us vs them" narrative, and written in a way that was designed to be easy to misunderstand. It shouldn't have been deleted, but it's easy to see why it was, and everyone getting angry about it being deleted is looking for an excuse to express anger they already feel.
