@ArrogantHair@mstdn.ca @erin@mstdn.ca Prevention is the best; mods or the platform should communicate to users which toot was in violation of the rules and which rule it broke. Kind of like Twitter does. I don't know if Mastodon moderation works that way, though. Failing that, you mentioned the mods could post a notice that a moderating situation is being investigated which is a good idea. I don't know what the answer is for when it does devolve into a viral controversy.

@ArrogantHair@mstdn.ca @erin@mstdn.ca Taking action over calling a moderating decision racist ends up punishing BIPOC for raising an alarm, if I'm understanding you correctly. It's essential that white moderators recognize their own privilege and don't let white fragility influence their decisions, particularly when it involves BIPOC or other marginalized groups. #moderation

@erin@mstdn.ca If someone is verbally abusive one time does that qualify as harassment or does it need to be a pattern of behaviour? Rule 8 about parody accounts. Does that mean the CBC Pitchbot account is not allowed? Thanks! 2/2

@erin@mstdn.ca Thank you for committing to a review and clarification of the rules. I had some questions about them. Rule 2: "No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or casteism." Antisemitism is missing. Re racism, I hope that isn't turned against BIPOC if they're complaining about racism by settlers/white people. That happened a lot on the bird site. Rule 4 begins with, "No harassment." How is harassment defined? 1/x
