Hello! I’m Alliat. Nice to meet you! My hobbies include Photography, tinkering with electronics, play disc golf, playing Smash Bros, rock climbing, DnD and casual MtG. I may even grab a paintbrush or dabble in music on rare occasions. I work repairing and maintaining medical imaging equipment such as X-Ray machines and fluoroscopy machines.

In the few occasions I have discussed religion with a christian and I inform them that I’m an atheist, this question has popped up, in one way or another, multiple times: “If you don’t believe in heaven and hell, what’s keeping you from [insert violent crime here]? Yeah, you should hang on to your religion and never question it.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Unfortunately, power also corrupts women, but I do think (without having any proof of it) that women are generally less susceptible to corruption. Here in Iceland we have a female President, all three leading political parties are lead by women (they call themselves “the valkyries”), the major of our only city is a woman as well and then some of the chiefs of police for various regions are women too. Most of them are doing an excellent job but a couple have been caught abusing their power. I think it just shows how alike the sexes really are. No one is from Mars and no one is from Venus, we’re all humans with our individual strengths and flaws.

@geonz @chu Yeah ours do that too. They slow down when one’s cruising near schools for example. Here implementation is key. A noise to alert the user that a slowdown is about to happen and then a GRADUAL slowdown. 😅 One of the local rentals did not alert me and the slow down was rather abrupt nearly causing me to fall.

@chu Took a tumble on one of these after a party at work. I only got bruised on my cheek bone and forehead despite the helmet, but got the lecture from the radiologists at work the following Monday. Accidents are super common and affect people of all ages and genders but the majority is intoxicated men over 40 (guilty!). Injuries are mostly shattered collar bones and head injuries. The cheek bone is particularly vulnerable, even if the person is wearing a helmet. In some cases the eyeball has to be fetched before the cheek bone can be mended. These things are no joke. A city of 170k people, that only supports these scooters part of the year due to winter conditions, and we’ve already had a fatal accident when two of them collided. One was jacked up to reach high speeds while the other one was a rental iirc. /rant

@infobeautiful My wife is obsessed with true crime podcasts and the amount of people surviving a point blank gunshot to the face is staggering. But I do believe all of those had consequences. So graph is still accurate.

@MicroSFF I remember someone playing DnD as a barbarian that was indeed not the chosen one, but was strong enough to lift the sword and the stone and used that as the weapon of choice during the campaign.

@KimSJ Here in Iceland like comparing the CoVid situation to the plot of the movie Jaws. We could have closed the borders and kept people safe on the island but tourism had to happen. It eventually landed in a way that the border was monitored for the virus (with insane exceptions) and that went the same way as in the aforementioned movie.

@randahl@mastodon.social Here in Iceland we have a female president, female prime minister and an all female lead majority in elected congress. Unfortunately, women seem to be slowly approaching equality in the scandal department, but fortunately they still have a long way to go. And it’s mostly because of a handful of rotten apples. I’m often surprised that the right leaning parties have any women at all these days.

I took this picture late summer in 2007 near Hveragerði, Iceland. I hadn’t been taking artistic pictures for long. 18 years later this still seems to be my magnum opus. The light was just right. Everything was just right. The sunlight striking the bright field backlit the horses. Crepuscular rays toppling over gently rolling hills in the background. It’s going to be hard for me to top this one, but not impossible!

Every time I look at this picture I’m immediately snapped back to that moment. I hear the birds, the gentle breeze that can be seen animating the horse’s manes, I’m standing there in my 20’s appreciating it, holding the camera but almost forgetting to take the picture. 😅

I hope you can appreciate the moment as well!

@parismarx@mastodon.online I switched to Affinity some years ago to avoid the PS subscription jail. It took a week of stubbornness doing tutorials but now I wouldn’t go back to PS even if it was free. Affinity was recently obtained by Canva and they made the entire Affinity suite free but if you want AI features you’ll have to pay. Good luck on your endeavours!
