so uhh ...am signing up to become a member of the IAAP. Do I get any extra points for flagging #accessibility issues on the website of the International Association for Accessibility professionals, I wonder? ๐Ÿค”

@bram@social.bramd.nl hahaha compared to what I have streamed in the past this is positively futuristic :) probably covering final fantasy X soon, that thing is about 25 years old :) Modders like their nostalgia, I guess :)

RE: https://cupoftea.social/@zersiax/116929297730718679 So yeah we did this a few weeks ago and I'm doing it again today, this time covering The Witcher 3. CD Project Red is getting so much marketing from me, where's mah dollahs? Anyway same time , same channels, same attitude. See you at 7 PM CEST!

I just posted a LinkedIn post about doing #accessibility for ... y'know .. the actual people affected rather than making those the secondary focus below compliance, metrics and dashboards. The comparison of playing a piano with a clipboard may have been made. If a few managerial staff spontaneously combust in a fit of self-righteous corporate rage because of this, I'm very sorry.

Bluesky honestly has been up in arms about the Meta glasses for weeks now. One of the pro arguments is always "blind people use them". One of the counter arguments is "they are pervert glasses that let you secretly record people". Maybe I'm just too well adjusted to follow this mindset but explain this to me. How is this any worse than holding a phone in front of your face, like a huge amount of people do these days? Compared to phones: - Meta glasses let you only reco...

As of late I've seen Android Talkback just ... lock up. Can't swipe, can't properly lock/unlock, it just ...hangs. Usually it fixes itself after just leaving it be for a few minutes but ... is that just me? Did I bork my phone or did Google bork Talkback?

I just applied to a job on LinkedIn, however, the application process appears to have been handled by GreenHouse, instead. Oddly, the page I was on, on LinkedIn, had no idea what my linkedIn profile URL was, provided several prompts in German (I'm Dutch) and neatly closed back to a regular LinkedIn page after the application was submitted. What ... the heck ... is happening here?

RE: https://social.lansky.name/@hn50/116885029349723375 I tried to read this. I had to read past several advertisements while doing so, and was finally dismayed to read I had to start a free trial to read the story about the reading crisis and the fact people don't read anymore. I find this delightfully ironic.

Just saw a post on LinkedIn by Microsoft's chief #accessibility officer, who was apparently at #NFB. Very much accessibility-first language, develop tools WITH and not for the #disability community, thanks for all the conversations. Greatly LinkedInspiring for those who weren't there this week. but ...a bunch of accessibility people got the boot. I happen to know about that. And with that knowledge the post rings about as hollow as an empty oil drum in a desert. Sorry, really not sorry...

@jakobrosin@universeodon.com @FreakyFwoof@universeodon.com ahh yes. In a similar episode, I got a call last week from the International Police cops. They were convinced there were some crime-related things happening to my civilian services number. those silly boys in blue and their names for things, I better give those ol' international police cops a ring, won't i? :)

To most, standalone devices that don't require connection to a computer or phone are incredibly freeing. use it wherever, however and whenever you like. To the fully #blind, this is, more often than not, the death sentence to any chance of it being usable accessibly, because apps, computers etc. can offer a channel to read the usually inaccessible (touch) screen. I have been pleasantly surprised about this NOT happening, maybe, 3-4 times in the last five years, most recently by a camera dro...

LinkedIn. Your puzzles are not #accessible. This is why I haven't engaged with them. I rather like my puzzles every so often, but you rendered them impossible for me to complete. One wonders why a corporate social network where people develop a whole new language to fake it till you make it NEEDS a puzzle system, and I think a lot of people have that question because you can LITERALLY add the skill "puzzle solving" to your PROFESSIONAL LinkedIn Profile now. Guys ... this is just g...

Just did an experiment by uploading today's Twitch stream's audio to AudioPub, an open source audio hosting website seemingly favored by blind screen reader users. @WeirdWriter I think I might have seen you mention it once or twice. We took a look at a mod for Atlus's Persona 4 Golden. If experiencing this #game through just your ears sounds appealing, find it at https://audiopub.site/listen/2cf9b202-9221-4410-b676-8e34eeaf5935

Ahh yes, Meta is such a GREAT accessibility enabler. ThEy GiVe tHe BlInD SiGht! meanwhile clicking the audio button on their captcha on Threads actually loads a new page with an audio player, causing the captcha to no longer be valid when you come back to the previous page as that refreshes the captcha. Open in a new tab? ...no. you can't. See this is why I push back when I see #accessibility job positions that require 10 years of figma, 15 years of WCAG experience and 20 years of ownin...

Welp ...I was on threads, for a few days. Then, I got a captcha. The audio version for #accessibility goes to a different page, so you can't use it, but I used #AI to prove I'm a human. Then, I had to verify my phone number by providing a security code. tried several times, never received the text, and eventually got locked out for requesting too many codes. Tried again this morning, from the app this time given I figured maybe the website was a third-class citizen. Worked, got...

Ok I am truly sorry to be that guy. BUT: Can we PLEASE, leave the "#AI improves #accessibility" talks to people who actually benefit from #accessibility? I see SO MANY articles, On LinkedIn, on Slack, on Medium, about how AI improves #accessibility metrics, compliance, automates all the things. Newsflash: your metrics are likely incomplete or inconclusive, compliance is at best an illusory snapshot, and automation for #accessibility is still a pipe dream, and that's coming from...

Using any kind of #AI is unethical. Denying huge groups of people the use of applications, operating systems, websites, physical venues and events is, however, perfectly fine, because #accessibility is hard, doesn't make money, or doesn't feel fun/sexy/productive.. Having those people, sick of said being excluded, figure out AI workarounds because humans have failed them for decades is, again, unethical and how dare they for considering such a thing. I'll see myself out...

Fun #language deep dive. The Dutch word "aardig" conventionally means "friendly" or "kind". However, if we look at this through cognates, it could be translated as "earthy". Aard-, that first syllable, can mean earth, but also one's nature, and in some words, one's orientation, which synonymizes with being grounded, as in an electrical system. Aard can also mean "descent", which is where...

During this year's "Games for blind gamers" jam on #itchIO, a #game was submitted that tried to accurately portray a #blind protagonist. This game was developed by a developer who is not blind, but believed to have done adequate research into this. Some people did not agree and came down on them rather hard, but I saw an opportunity. In this video I break down what was represented well, what wasn't, and we get into some really interesting #blindness and #disabil...
