Bluesky honestly has been up in arms about the Meta glasses for weeks now. One of the pro arguments is always "blind people use them". One of the counter arguments is "they are pervert glasses that let you secretly record people".
Maybe I'm just too well adjusted to follow this mindset but explain this to me. How is this any worse than holding a phone in front of your face, like a huge amount of people do these days?
Compared to phones:
- Meta glasses let you only record a few minutes at a time;
- You can't actually see what you're recording until after with the non-display glasses at least;
- You look hella conspicuous wearing these things in a place you probably shouldn't be wearing them like a bathroom;
Isn't a phone with a proper viewfinder a way better perving device?

@zersiax@cupoftea.social the only rationale I can see is that people know if you're holding a phone, whereas wearing glasses is done for reasons other than recording stuff. it does seem very blown out of proportion, but then given I can't see whether people are holding a phone or wearing their glasses, I don't feel very qualified to comment.

@zersiax@cupoftea.social they’re not always sunglasses, they can be normal prescription lenses. I’m definitely not taking my glasses off unless I’m showering or sleeping; taking them off in the bathroom would be a recipe for disaster.
