  fair enough; the people who made DOS work and then made Windows work, and also may have seen compatibility through win9x and XP (and from the DOS-based to NT-based Windows) are now rightfully like "WHAT THE CRAP" when Windows 11 is intentionally tripping over its doodle.   we went from having to compile the kernel to having to compile things that are much more difficult than the kernel to compile I've not in recent times had to compile a web browser, or had to set a cross-compile environment up

  I'm here for it. Apply it to cars. Go back to the 1957 Chevy Bel Air engine-wise, stuff a good transmission behind that, and surround it with modern structure and crumple zones. Interior, you get BUTTONS, and analog instrumentation (hopefully FULL) and the possibility for a MANUAL transmission.   I think my general palate is changing (for the BETTER). Not long ago, I'd not eat carrots, potatoes, or broccoli without butter, or salt, or at least some seasoning. (Broccoli/carrots, I had with ranch dressing. They pretty much cancel each other nutrition-wise) Today, I can eat all of that with no additives, and eat it ALL. I thought I'd utterly fail at this, but I'm surprised.

  Sad that a selling point for today's laptops is "has built-in ethernet" and "has more than 2 USB ports" Even more sad is that very few new laptops can even make these claims. Yeah, pick up a lightly-used older laptop if you need a laptop. You get much more value.

  welp it's not going to be automatic (not right now, anyway), but my Blu-Ray ripping journey is off to a good start. My reader is LibreDrive-compliant and MakeMKV works with it, so they get my money!

  Oh... kinda sad when someone like the MakeMKV folks understand how basic commerce works better than most of the established outfits. They made it easy and painless to give them my money; not a thing I can say for most carts/payment systems...

  bwahahaha changing my grocery list to mostly "possible ALDI" is liberating The spreadsheet has variations of this that are marked "ALDI": - (costs less) - (less waste) - (healthier) - (costs less AND I get more) - (less qty) <- it fights a bad property of Costco: sometimes I can't eat ALL of a thing I buy there, so it's waste :o(
