I'm finding it increasingly difficult to believe that any actions I take will improve my life in any meaningful way.

Liquor companies already on the shelf in NC prefer the government controlled system: they only have to convince a few people on a committee that their bottles should be sold, not every single store. Plus, companies in NC get a boost. Winning that presentation means your stuff is available in nearly every store in every county. Stores can not sell it, but they can't choose not on the approved list. Which is why South Carolina liquor stores are more interesting than NC stores.

Someone should use AI to put together a catchy song about enshittification.

Dave Vanian - Tenterhooks He's most famous for being the lead singer of The Damned, but he did this instrumental on request. I don't normally like instrumentals. Not sure why this one grabs me. #DJTJ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c19Gzwmwu-w

Guess who got a wiki page? The Bricks & Minifigs saga! Now you don't have to watch hours of videos to find out where the story is now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bricks_%26_Minifigs%E2%80%93Reckless_Ben_controversy#Bricks_&_Minifigs

I try not to say "I told you so" to people, so I'm going to gloat here. I told my son to setup international roaming before he left, and he didn't because he didn't want to pay the charges. I told him wifi isn't available everywhere - just like in the US where most networks require a password. Now he's got no phone coverage, only has wifi at the hostel, and can't figure out how to get to the airport at 1AM when there are no bus...

Okay. I'm stuck. Junior is stuck in a foreign country with no way to get to the airport because he declined to set up roaming while still in the US and can't order a ride. Taxi drivers dispatch by app, but the app requires phone authentication. Rideshare requires phone authentication. All he has is wifi. Can't set up Google Voice, because that requires phone authentication. How do we get his phone authenticated without cell service?

I am seriously considering calling my ex and making this his problem.

Junior update: Reached out to my ex, who knows lots of people who are overseas. One of them helped set up wifi chat, so Jr. and ex could discuss things in real time instead of via email. They appear to have a plan. Ex says he also told Junior to turn on international before he left the U.S.

Don't have the right politics? No house-buying in Germany for you! A proposed law would have the national secret police tell local governments who has the correct thinking and is allowed to buy a house. https://notthebee.com/article/german-government-considers-banning-citizens-it-considers-extremists-from-buy-homes

I was on the fence about buying Girl Scout cookies this year. They are not a good value and the local troops get very little per box. But the girls are very enthusiastic, and I succumbed. Definite no next year. There's even fewer cookies, and enshittification has started. What used to be a good layer of frosting on the lemon cookies, is now a slight glaze. There's less peanut butter filling in the chocolate covered peanut butter cookies.

The people at my local makerspace are the best. I went for the first time since orientation, and felt uncomfortable using the miter saw. Asked some rando to spot me, and he agreed without hesitation. Gave me a lot of good advice, including how to correct one of the mistakes I made. I decided to step down to a bread box for my first project, and I'm glad I did. I'm learning a lot (code for "making mistakes")
